The CX File Explorer App would work beautifully for them. It would be much better than Plex or Kodi for a beginner. They just need to get an android box, easy to do.

Or, you get the CX File Explorer app and you don't have to bother with any of that. You just go straight into your laptop storage.

It doesn't work. Get over it. It was a useless suggestion then and is still a useless suggestion now. Android is not involved in any way. None.

You set up File Sharing(SMB) on the Mac: https://support.apple.com/en-au/guide/mac-help/mh17131/10.15 or Linux: http://www.samba.org/ and then add the Network Location within KODI: https://kodi.wiki/view/SMB

 

or choose from Plex, Jellyfin or Emby.

i don't have a TV in the house anymore, but when i did
i would just use a file explorer or VLC to access my computer from TV
would never bother with a media suite

So from the 4 x HDs with old stuff, what criteria do you use to decide what to watch.

I have IPTV system with more Movies and Series than I could watch in my lifetime, 16 hours a day. 7 days a week.

It's a screenshot from the Internet and posted solely to inform @Cameroni that you don't have to get into anything complicated in order to simply play files on your TV that reside on another device. I just showed how the file list can present itself. Absolutely no need to have all the artwork and metadata downloaded to KODI, for your own files sitting on a laptop, unless you actually want to create a multimedia library. 

 

 

The amount of people who post here solely to antagonise and argue is somewhat of an eye opener. Including those who really have nothing to contribute at all. One pushing IPTV. Another an Android box, (expressly against the criteria given) and a File Explorer and now you insisting that unless it's organised as a full multimedia system, they should not be allowed to use KODI.

Your petty argument is in no way helpful nor relevant to the question being asked.

We only watch TV 1 hour at night, too busy during the day, But we have music playing most of the day,on the desktop I have a folder called TV TIMES, when one series finishes I edit it
