Police were alerted at around 10.00 on September 29, to the discovery of a lifeless body found floating in an abandoned pond in Ban Thon Mai Phai, Moo 4, Klong Hoi Khong, Songkhla province. The scene, located in a remote thicket not far from the local village.

Investigators from the Klong Hoi Khong Police Station, along with officers from the Songkhla Provincial Investigation Unit, forensic specialists, and rescue teams from the Mittraphap Samakkhi Foundation of Hat Yai, arrived to inspect the area.

The deceased, identified as 15-year-old Kanawat, also known as "Fang," a M3 student at Wat Pho School, was found wearing his school uniform. Initial assessments suggest that Fang had been dead for approximately five days.

His body bore signs of assault, including rope marks around his neck and bruises on his torso, suggesting he had been strangled and beaten. No evidence of a struggle was found at the scene, leading police to believe that the teenager may have been killed elsewhere and dumped at the pond.

Family members reported that Fang had gone missing on the evening of Tuesday, September 24, along with his black Honda Wave motorcycle and his mobile phone. Desperate to find him, relatives had taken to social media to appeal for information. Tragically, early this morning, a local resident foraging for mushrooms discovered Fang’s body in the abandoned pond.

Fang’s remains were taken to Songklanagarind Hospital for a more thorough autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Speaking to police, Fang’s older sister, Ms. Fern, recalled that her brother disappeared after school on September 24. He had reportedly dropped off two friends at their homes and mentioned that he was going to take a ride near Ban Muang Khom, Kuan Lang sub-district. After that, no one heard from him again. Normally, Fang would drive his motorcycle to drop his mother off at work each morning and pick her up after school, but that day he failed to do so and vanished.

Fang’s grandfathers, Ta Teng and Ta Toi, also revealed that they had tried to call him in the days following his disappearance. Initially, their calls connected, but they were immediately blocked each time. After two days, they could no longer reach him at all. His friends reported no conflicts or altercations in the days leading up to his disappearance.

Police were investigating the possibility of robbery, as both Fang’s motorcycle and phone are missing. Another angle being explored is whether he may have had a personal conflict or encountered a dangerous situation that led to his tragic death.

Officers after reviewing any CCTV footage from near the area and interviewing Fang’s friends, on the afternoon of September 29 were able to arrest one suspect involved in the murder. The suspect, 15-year-old Boonmee, a  friend of the victim.

CCTV footage from near a convenience store close to the crime scene captured an image on September 24 at 15:22, showing Boonmee riding a black Honda Wave motorcycle, which belonged to Nong Fang. After knocking him unconscious during a fight, Boonmee is reported to have rode the motorcycle to pick up his girlfriend before giving her a lift back.

Boonmee then returned with his girlfriend to the crime scene to check if Nong Fang had regained consciousness. Upon arrival, they found he was still unconscious. Boonmee then used a rope he had brought with him to strangle Nong Fang to death, dragged her into the water and fled on the stolen motorcycle.
