U.S. Seeks to Weaken Hezbollah’s Grip on Lebanon Amid Israeli Offensive

While the U.S. presence was officially framed as peacekeeping, many Lebanese viewed it as an occupation, especially given the military actions and the broader geopolitical implications.

Hezbollah did receive some support from Iran and has Shia ideology, but its origins were  a response to the perceived failures of the Lebanese state and the ongoing violence from various factions, including Israel’s invasions.

It's primary purpose is most certainly not to destroy Israel. It is a defender of Lebanon and the Shia community.

This is blatant misinformation. Hezbollah is a proxy for Iran and has very little support from large swaths of the Lebanese population. You seem to be in favour of a country hundreds of miles away arming and supporting a particular religious group to destabilize and overthrow the democracy they're within in order to wage geo-political war against their enemy who are also hundreds of miles away.

What makes you think I am in favour of Hezbollah?

Simply stating facts.

Hezbollah is an ally of Iran, not a proxy. Did you listen to the message from Iran's leader recently?

They share ideological and political goals, particularly regarding occupation of Lebanon by Western colonial nations. Iran provides financial  assistance to Hezbollah because of the mess the country is in due to military bombardment by Israel in the 2006 war and the 1982 invasion., the extensive damage to infrastructure. You may have noticed a pattern with the IDF, take a look at the destruction in Gaza. it would take Gaza many many years to recover, even if Israel allowed cement to get into the country.

More misinformation spreading by you, of course Hezbollah is an Iran proxy! You are certainly NOT stating facts. You are doing your best to hide them.

They oppose US interests so of course they are terrorists?  Isn't that how it works?

According to Chatgpt

Hezbollah was formed in the early 1980s in response to the U.S. and Israeli occupation of Lebanon. The group emerged as a militant organization advocating for the resistance against foreign intervention and the expulsion of Israeli forces following the 1982 invasion. Additionally, it sought to empower the marginalized Shiite community, addressing their socio-political grievances. Influenced by Iranian support, Hezbollah aimed to unify various factions against perceived Western and Israeli aggressions, positioning itself as a defender of Lebanese sovereignty.

United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 is a resolution that was intended to resolve the 2006 Lebanon War. The resolution calls for a full cessation of hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanon to be replaced by Lebanese and United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) forces deploying to southern Lebanon, and the disarmament of armed groups including Hezbollah, with no armed forces other than UNIFIL and Lebanese military south of the Litani River, which flows about 29 km (18 mi) north of the border.

UNIFIL and Lebanese army did nothing. UNIFIL is now protecting  Hezbollah

No way the US, which has been exposed to be 100% on israel's side and not an honest broker, can impose a "friendly" government on Lebanon. The US is IMO too ignorant of M E culture to ever succeed in it's plans.

Hezbollah is a Lebanese organisation, a part of the country's fabric, and not like the PLO, which was of a different country.

What amazes me is that the so called freedom loving western countries of the world see the destruction of a sovereign country and do nothing effective to oppose the israeli assault on it. Never has the west been exposed for such hypocrisy before. If it were the Russians destroying Lebanon and killing thousands of Lebanese the reaction would be very different.

IMO the Americans are not regarded as "friends" by the Lebanese. As agents of the israelis they were enemies.
