If you are running a version of a Microsoft Windows™ and see only a broken link icon, you will need to download a copy of the Java™ Virtual Machine in order to run our application. You may download Java™ Support for your browser from

http://java.sun.com/getjava/

Older versions of Netscape (on certain platforms) such as v4.08, and v4.7x may not run the software. We strongly recommend upgrading to a newer version of Netscape (v6.xx or better) if this is the case. Certain browsers running on Macintosh platforms are not capable of running our software due to problems outside of our control. As WebTV does not support Java™, WebTV users will not be able to access the live chat rooms.

Users behind firewalls may need to inform their local IT/network administrator to allow TCP connections on ports 9000-9009 at client.invisionchat.com.

AOL Members: Some users have reported that the built-in AOL browser has difficulty connecting to our service, or does not load colors/emoticons properly. To resolve this, minimize your AOL connection, and use the Internet Explorer browser that came with your computer to access our chat rooms.

Yes, I have the latest release of the Sun Java Virtual Machine, but I'm still getting the same problem as described in the first post!, I run on win XP, Pent 4 with plenty of power.

Maybe you can check out why this is happening George.

There's no broken link icon, just a message saying that the "applet downloading".

but it never does.

The problem seems to lie in Netscape. Unable to use the chat function with Netscape 7.0. Just that plug in thing appears. No problem however with I.E. 5.0 which immediately initiates the Java features.

Although I clearly favor Netscape over I.E. and use it in about 99% of all cases it occasionally appears that some websites/functions do not operate with it - the moment when it is time to take that "old aggrivating sucker" I.E. out of the closet. Also encounter problems with Bangkok Bank's exchange rate page. It just remains blank white when hitting it with Netscape but works nicely with that old 5.0 I.E.

Therefore, it might always be a good idea having a version of I.E. on your machine just as a back-up if problems are encountered. I think it is much easier to proceed that way instead of trying to get your better and more advanced browser software working. Those fancy browsers appear to have only one "problem" which is that they are not 100% MS compatible and attempting to employ some tricks to overcome obstacles might be eventually do more harm than good. Bill Gates got the power so what to heck let him have 1% of my browser time. Just a thought. :o

Whoops, that's indeed interesting. Well, you said that you have the latest Java Software already on your machine but obviously your browser does not generate (find) it when you need it for the chat application and therefore the suggestion to download it. Obviously, the command from bangkokchat to your browser to look for Java at the RIGHT place does not work

How about putting Java into your start-up menue that means it is readily available when your browser gets asked for it. Doing this will show you the Java icon (steaming tea cup) on your activity bar.

As previously said I could not chat with Netscape 7.0 before but had to use I.E. Now I just gave it a trial with Netscape by already having the icon on my activity bar and... it worked.

For those not having the Java software yet, get it as a free download from java.com. Afterwards put it in your start up menue and make sure the tea cup icon shows on your activity bar BEFORE your approach bangkokchat.

Good luck and happy chatting.

Yes the steming cup of tea is in the top left hand corner when I try to log into Bangkokchat, also it is on my desktop and taskbar, but it never eventuates that I can get into the chat i.e the applet NEVER downloads, even though there is a message saying "applet downloading", a right pain in the seat cushion!
