A long-tail boat carrying seven tourists, both Thai and foreign, sank near Rang Yai Island in Koh Kaew Subdistrict, Mueang Phuket District, at approximately 17:00 on October 21. Fortunately, all passengers were safely rescued by another passing boat.

Among the rescued were three injured individuals, including a British tourist who sustained a sea urchin sting on his foot. Another passenger suffered minor injuries. Local authorities confirmed that no one was seriously hurt in the incident.

Upon being informed of the sinking, officers from Mueang Police Station swiftly dispatched rescue workers to assist. The injured were transferred to AA Marina pier, where they received medical treatment.

The cause of the boat’s sinking is still under investigation. Authorities have urged caution for boat operators as tourism activity in the area remains high.

Sea urchins do not sting.  But, sustaining a foot injury suggests the boat was in shallow water.

Or the injury was caused in shallow water after swimming form deeper water?

Correct they don't sting, but oh boy!, they sure hurt and the remains of the spikes are virtually impossible to remove without invasive intervention.
