The crash took place at 21:00 on October 24, when a drunk driver lost control of his pickup truck and crashed into a roadside noodle shop in Udon Thani, killing one person and seriously injuring nine others. The incident occurred near the entrance to the underpass at the Kaenoi junction, in front of the former Udon Thani Transport Office.

 

Police Lt. Pira Rasri, an investigator from the Udon Thani Police Station, was notified of the crash and coordinated with Udon Thani Hospital medical staff and rescue teams to rush to the scene.

 

Upon arrival, they found a black 4-door pickup truck had crashed into a food cart, destroying tables, chairs, and food stalls selling noodles, rice, and other items. The collision left one customer dead at the scene, identified as Mr. Chatchai, aged 51. Nine others were seriously injured and rushed to the hospital by rescue teams.

 

Witnesses reported that during the rescue, one severely injured person pleaded for help for his child trapped under the truck. Rescuers used equipment to lift the vehicle and safely pulled the child from under it, immediately sending the child to the hospital.

 

The driver of the pickup, identified as 21-year-old Kiatthisak, surrendered to the authorities. A breathalyser test showed his alcohol level over the limit and his vehicle was found to have an expired tax registration.

 

The police have initially charged Kiatthisak with reckless driving causing death. Observers noted that he also appeared to be under the influence of drugs, prompting local residents to demand a urine test. Some in the crowd attempted to assault him, leading to a chaotic scene that police had to control.

 

Ms. Ruedee, 42, the sister of the deceased, happened to pass by the scene and stopped to check the accident. She was devastated to discover that her brother was the victim. Through tears, she recalled that earlier in the day, her brother had mentioned nearly getting into an accident due to a loose wheel nut, but she never thought it would lead to this tragedy.

 

The aunt of the driver also arrived at the scene after hearing of the crash and angrily confronted her nephew, blaming him for taking drugs and causing the fatal accident. She was heard yelling, “I told you not to drive! Now you’ve killed someone! You deserve to go to jail!” before attempting to assault him.

 

Kiatthisak, speaking about the incident, claimed that he was on his way to pick up his mother from work. He said he blacked out after driving through the underpass and only realised what had happened after the crash. He expressed deep remorse and apologised to the victim’s family, saying that if he could turn back time, he would never have driven.

B.S.! Kiatthisak is a serial drunk, serial DUI offender as he most probably pick up his mother everyday drunk as a skunk. Lucky not happen before, and it was just a time factor about when it would happen. As usual no common sense, and no respect for other peoples life.
