My premium is due for renewal in just over a months time.  I queried the level of increase and have had back "canned" reasons for general levels of increase and have had to ask twice if it was because of moving into a higher age banding.

Just received this reply today - only took 8 days for them to respond.........

You have contacted us by email, regarding the study of changes on the contract APA********

We inform you that we don't use age gaps every 5 year for our premiums adjustments on the offer My Health International.

Unfortunately Thailand has been one of the most impacted countries by the price increase because of the inflation of the costs and sinistrality of our policyholders.

We can suggest you to increase your deductible in order to lower the costs ;

>> Your current coverage: 3 480,86 $ / month

>> Your personalized quote: 3 272,56‬ $ / month (1000 deductible)
>> Your personalized quote: 3 064,25‬ $ / month (2500 deductible)

I am 65 and increase just seems too high to me as I doubt this will be a one off in the coming years.

This was the general letter they sent -

I have posted as may be of interest to others.

Sinistrality is a noun that means the quality or state of being left-handed, or the preference for using the left hand or side:
  • The left side or one or more of its parts (as the hand or eye) is different from and usually more efficient than the right or its corresponding parts
  • The state of being sinistral

did I read that right, 3'480 usd per month??? that would be 41,760 usd per year ... :saai:

Fortunately not - they have a monthly pay option but I pay annually.

I wondered who else would pick up on that .

I replied asking them what they actually meant as otherwise I may be an outlier as right handed..............

It will probably be another week before they reply if they even bother. :coffee1:

Here's another explanation of "sinistrality":

Sinistrality is merely the state of being sinistral. This means, quite simply being left-handed (adj.). Regrettably, left-handedness was once regarded as something evil, of the devil - hence ‘the left hand path’ indicating followers of the black arts or the occult. The word ‘sinister’ (Latin for left) as opposed to ‘dexter’ (right) means threatening or portending evil, harm, or trouble; ominous: a sinister remark. bad, evil, base, or wicked; fell: his sinisterpurposes. unfortunate; disastrous; unfavourable: a sinister accident.

What, then, is April saying about its policyholders in Thailand?

Maybe by saying the "sinistrality of our policyholders" it was a spell-checker gone awry and they actually meant 'sinister intentions of our policy holders' as in another recent topic where the policy document had to be modified due to instances of fraud. Edited by jerrymahoney

Spell checker mistake was my first thought but could not come up with a suitable alternative. Possibly a mistake in the translation from French.

It would be interesting to know. As mentioned I have queried it but expect to be fobbed off with some bland words when they eventually reply.

I am thinking of ditching April as their service is not as good as it was.

I will self insure.

I am 74 next year and my premium will be 18,000 USD - inpatient only. I have only made two claims in14 years with them. Prostrate biopsy (nothing found) and a lung infection.
