Passenger Causes Disturbance on Korean Air Flight, Demanding Crew Seat Near Emergency Exit

A passenger caused a disturbance on a Korean Air flight from Bangkok to Incheon, insisting on sitting in a crew-designated seat near the emergency exit. The passenger, only identified as Mr. A and not a Korean national, was eventually subdued by crew members and handed over to police upon landing.

 

According to Korean Air, the incident took place on flight KE658, which departed from Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport on November 7 and landed at Incheon Airport at approximately 04:45 on November 8. During the flight, Mr. A attempted to sit in a seat designated for crew members near the emergency exit. When crew members asked him to return to his assigned seat, he refused, raising his voice and threatening staff as he approached the emergency door, in what looked like an attempt to try to open the door.

 

Despite multiple warnings from the crew regarding the violation of aviation security regulations, Mr. A continued his disruptive behaviour. Following the captain’s orders, the crew managed to restrain him and moved him to a separate area, calming the situation. The flight, which was carrying 238 passengers, arrived safely at Incheon Airport with no further disruptions.

 

Upon landing, Mr. A was handed over to Incheon Airport Police for investigation.

 

A Korean Air spokesperson stated, “We are committed to taking strong action against any illegal acts that compromise the safety of our flights and passengers.”

I was a flight attendant for 10 years from the early 90's to the early 2000's. Long before smart phones and their ubiquitous cameras. 

 

With the change in life that those darned things have caused, and knowing FAs and rules, it is quite possible that there is one or more FAs designated to getting stuff on camera if crap hits the fan midflight. After all, you can't have a dozen FAs dealing with an idiot. There isn't enough room.
