are you a smoker?

met a smoker who nearly died from pneumonia.

if you were, hope you quit.

Smoking reduces lung capacity by 2 - 3 litres.

The average non-smoker has a lung capacity of 5.5 - 6 litres.

You have friends and good friends, and last is not that many, agreed, but sill when doing extreme sports, you get connection easily where you share the same interests and lifestyle.

I have no interest whatsoever in extreme sports.

I can understand the adrenaline rush, but I cannot understand putting yourself at risk.

In fact, I don't even care much for any adrenaline rush. God created sex, and that's good enough for me. I don't need to jump off cliffs to get excited.

I have extreme fear of heights. And since I believe in past lives, I am guessing this irrational fear must come from a past life incident where I died from heights in some tragic way.

Started 2023 with severe pnuemonia in both lungs and put into a coma and all the plumbing rammed down my throat.

Had to jump start my heart 3 times whilst in that coma.

Drugs used to treat pnumonia cause my large intestion to perforate, emergency operation to do a  bypass resulted in me wearing a bolt on poo bag.

Bypass reversal 3 months later.. no more poo bag .... Yay !

Was then told a tumour kidney was detected whilst in coma...

End of 2023 had tumour and half kidney removed.

Happy to see 2024... so far made it through unscathed...... but yeah, writing is on the wall and exit plan is ready.

Between mid 2022 to current have had 7 friends go home in a pine box.

My advice ....don't buy a YEARLY lottery ticket!

Its a 'balanced risk' and based very firmly on perspective.

... People live in Central Bangkok and then complain about smokers !!.. others drink every day and then wont take a vaccine etc etc...

The psychological aspects of doing sports cannot be understated, and for some, the sports become more extreme...

.. I used to think nothing of skiing down a mountain at 80kmh... that was until a major accident.

I've sky dived, bungie jumped...  all great fun...  Wake boarded, another major accident knackering my lower back put a stop to that...

I've played sports all my life... and am now paying for it (knee, ankle, back problems).... But had I not been very active, life would have been miserable..

It was a way to keep focused, and maintain a drive for finding a reason to work and live an interesting life. I was not satisfied with 9-4 life, and needed some real challenges to be motivated.

The funny is, I'm also scared of heights 😅

I like tennis.

It's a low risk sport.

And there is some level of skill and athleticism involved.

Minus risks. No contact.

It's the skill level that makes it interesting for me.

I don't need an adrenaline rush, which seems similar to taking drugs to me.

But to each his own.

I like tennis too and used to play often... Also been injured doing that !!

Plenty of risk... ALC, PCL, Meniscus..  Medial, lateral Ligaments etc..  riskier as we get older....

I've played a lot of football...   loads of injuries there too, and getting them more easily as I age....

I was 'out for over year with injury' its the only time of my life I've not had black toe nails on one foot or another... Got fit again, played again....  got injured again and am now out - now with a black toe nail from those few games !!!

Anyone active will get injuries - its just a part of life, knowing when to slow down is a hard lesson to learn.

I haven't played tennis for a good few years... maybe I'll have to try that again.

I haven't played golf for a good few years... perhaps its time to spoil a good walk again !!!

Pretty much any activity is good and mentally rewarding....

Thats why we have managed to survive as a society, because of people had different skills and talents. Extreme sports doesnt seems especially useful today, but manage to keep focused and able to do the right things at the right time, pluss have the patience to be better at risking your life, could be useful in some critical situations.

Yeah, good point.

Maybe we might have WWIII, all the technology will be destroyed, and then we will have to go back to hunting lions.

And the ones who have done extreme sports will be the only ones who survive.

Or ... Hunger Games

The most essential human superpower, is social skills, understand the game, then,,,,,,, you can collect the right people to surround you with.

Many extreme sport "athletes" is truly some of the most egoistic people I have met in my life, and that includes the previous me.

Thats why I stopped going to the gym many years ago.

The obnoxious idiots that flex in the mirrors there got on my nerves.

It's like Narcissus staring at himself in the mirror.

I'm hoping the robot athletes will come out soon.

I'd rather play sports with a robot. They will have less ego than people.

Mike's right. I think same. When you're gone nobody's giving a damn.

If I die now, in this hotel room, nobody knows. My few friends only know I'm "traveling in Asia", that's all they know. I don't tell more so they don't worry 'cause I don't worry myself.

I try to enjoy remaining years. Or days or months. I'm not afraid to die.

I still am curious how people live in different countries and like to mix with locals without getting too close.
