Teen Narrowly Escapes Alleged 'Honor Killing' by Parents Outside School

Had a regular Bangladeshi taxi driver back in Lancashire.Always took me home from the boozer Sat and Sunday lunchtime. He was the nicest guy imaginable and we became great mates.

On the only time we had a serious conversation he mentioned to me that if his daughter even thought about going out with a white boy,he would think nothing of beheading her.

Let that sink in.

Nothing to do with religion. There is nothing that I know of in the Koran to say that sort of thing should happen, but if you can prove there is a Koranic edict I'll take that back.

If it was a religious thing all the other Islamic countries would also have honour killings, but they don't.

It's a cultural thing and likely predates Islam.

You are correct, it is not a teaching in the Quran but it only exists now among Muslim communities because Islam is the only main religion that does not allow outside marriage or relationships. Therefore, it is not a cultural action but an act caused directly by the edicts of Islam. Many religions and communities practised honour killings centuries ago but it seems only the Muslim communities are perpetuating it in the 21st century.

And while all of that is true…

If one simply asks: In which country are the greatest number of honour killings reported?

The answer is, predictably, Pakistan.

Thus, while it is fair to acknowledge that honour killings occur across various cultures and religions worldwide, the reality remains that some countries, such as Pakistan, are disproportionately associated with these abhorrent acts.

Deeply entrenched patriarchal norms and cultural practices are often culturally justified under the guise of Islam and perpetuate these heinous crimes.
