Teen Severely Injured After Falling into Rice Combine Harvester in Uthai Thani

A 17-year-old boy was severely injured after falling into the machinery of a rice combine harvester while working in the fields. Rescuers managed to free him using hydraulic tools before rushing him to the hospital.

 

The incident occurred at approximately 21:00 on November 19 in Nong Sa Subdistrict, Thap Than District, Uthai Thani Province. The teenager’s foot became trapped in the harvester’s threshing mechanism, causing severe injuries.

 

Uthai Thani rescue teams quickly arrived at the scene and used hydraulic cutting tools to dismantle parts of the harvester, working from both the front and back of the machine to free the victim’s foot. The operation took around 30 minutes. The rescuers then carefully lowered the boy, who was trapped on the nearly 4 metre high harvester, using ropes on a stretcher.

 

Emergency medical responders from Thap Than Hospital provided first aid on site before transporting the boy to the hospital for further treatment.

 

A friend of the injured teen, also 17, explained that they were hired to work in the rice fields, with one operating the harvester and the injured boy assisting by managing the rice flow on the machine. The incident happened while the victim was trying to adjust the grain pile, which was uneven and preventing rice from feeding into the thresher properly.

 

As he worked, the teen slipped and fell into the thresher. His foot was caught in the spinning blades, causing deep lacerations and leaving him unable to free himself. Rescuers had to cut through the machine to release him, an effort that ultimately saved his life.

 

Authorities are investigating the incident further to ensure proper safety measures are in place to prevent similar accidents in the future.

At only aged 17 and a badly injured foot he's going to have a difficult life ahead.

I doubt very much he was in the thresher:

 

"The incident happened while the victim was trying to adjust the grain pile"

 

You only get a "grain pile" after it's been threshed.

 

I expect he was standing in the hopper full of grain (like this bloke out the back of my house) and got sucked down into the screw mechanism that pushes the grain out the transfer tube and into a vehicle:
