A murder suspect was found dead in his jail cell on November 20, at Phan Na Nikhom Police Station and is believed to have taken his own life due to stress related to his case.

The incident involved Mr. Adirek who was accused of fatally stabbing Mr. Prasert during an altercation the previous night. Police confirmed that around noon today, Mr. Adirek used his shirt to hang himself in the detention cell where he was being held on charges of intentional homicide.

Forensic officers arrived at the scene to examine the body and are preparing to return it to the suspect's family for funeral rites.

Pol. Col. Kampanat Setritthikul, Chief of Phan Na Nikhom Police Station, stated that preliminary investigations suggest the suspect's death resulted from severe emotional distress.

Security camera footage from the detention area showed the suspect entering the bathroom shortly before the incident. However, the actual act was not captured due to a blind spot in the camera's coverage.

Col. Kampanat noted that the suspect had appeared visibly stressed in the hours leading up to his death but had not requested any special assistance or shown alarming behaviour. Family members had visited him regularly and reported no significant changes in his demeanour.

The police chief emphasised that the incident will trigger a thorough review to determine whether any negligence by law enforcement contributed to the tragedy or if the circumstances were unavoidable. Investigations will proceed based on all available evidence and testimonies.
