Good morning, is the following possible:

1. Obtain a single entry non o visa based on marriage (90 days) from Savannakhet

2. Close to the expiry of the above visa obtain a 60 day "visit wife" extension from Thai  immigration  office

3. Close to the expiry of the above extension apply for a 12 month extension based on 400,000 Baht seasoned funds

It's step 3 that I'm unsure about.

Thanks in advance

Yes it is.  Of course the 60 day extension is not really necessary, especially as you'll need the 400k in the bank for the initial non-O.  Here is a thread about the Kalasin office, might be some interesting tips in it;

No problem.

Some folk obtain the 60 day extension from the 90 day non O stamp to "buy time" for seasoning.

Done often

Thanks for your replies,  I need time to transfer and season the funds. My understanding is that the 400,000 is not needed for the initial non-o as it's single entry.

Then you need to crack on and get it soon as Laos will soon join the e-visa program.  One of the stated requirements for a single non-O e-visa is;

"Financial evidence showing monthly income of no less than 40,000 THB or having the current balance of 400,000 THB, e.g. bank statements, proof of earnings"

Thanks for the heads up, I wasn't aware of that.

Yes, you've basically got 3 weeks to try and make a in person application - you'll need an apponitment.

Instead of keeping the 400k in the bank and going through the whole extension process with your local IO, book 4 weekends away in neighboring countries. Flights and hotel package for you and the wife. 🙂 Do the last one just before it expires and it's good for around 15 months, no money tied up no dealing with immigration offices nice little breaks for you and the wife every 3 months. 🙂

That option also works without the wife, just sayin'🤗

What are you referring to "every 3 months" surely not visa exempt+ 30 day extension.

If you mean a Non-O Multiple-Entry from Savannahket, would need to show 400K sitting in a Thai bank for 2 months to apply for it.  And, good luck getting an appointment at the Savannakhet Thai-Consulate before they close for 2 weeks, and switch to eVisas.

Does anybody know if the 400,000THB balance has to be "seasoned" for 60 days for a single entry non-o?

Savannakhet will be new to the e-visa system and not all consulates apply the same rules.  For example Hanoi has also recently joined and does have the requirement (see below).  As nobody has done it yet it is hard to predict.

"3.5 Evidence of adequate finance: evidence of finance of at least THB 400,000.- or equivalent in other currencies for the past two months. "

My original marriage based non-o visa was issued in 2019, during the pandemic I did a couple of "Covid" extensions and 1 "visit wife" extension. For the last 3 years I have obtained marriage based extensions using the seasoned 400,000 THB method, for various reasons that amount is not currently available. My current extension expires on February 27th, so my question is can I do another 60 day "visit wife" extension at that time?

Posted

My understanding has always been it's one "visit wife" per visa/entry.  So if that original non-O was single or multi is important, also if you are still in country on the same extended entry as when you got the wife extension.  Others may confirm or otherwise correct this understanding.

That was my understanding too, my original non-O was multi entry and I am still in the country on the same extended entry as when I got the wife extension.  So I think it's not possible, I will check with my immigration office in the meantime.  Thanks again.

Seems that you had a single entry non O and at some point obtained a 60 day extension to visit wife.

You cannot obtain another..

If the funds are an issue you could "start over"

Do a border bounce without reentry permit and then 60 day extension to visit wife (if required) that gives 60 + 60 days. Then obtain non O marriage at your local immigration office with 400k in your Thai bank account

That the important bit.

You cannot obtain a second 60 day extension.

Thanks DrJack,  that was my next question! Do a border bounce, obtain a 60 day visa exempt entry (UK passport) into Thailand then do a 60 day visit wife extension and finally a 12 month extension with 400K seasoned.

You left out the "obtain non O marriage" after the 60 to visit wife..

Yes and the non O provides a 90 day stamp and in last 30 days obtain 12 month extension.

The 400k in bank on day you apply for non O and seasoned for 2 months prior to application for extension.

Which immigration office.

Thanks to Upnotover and DrJack54 for your helpful replies. My best option is to  sort out my finances ASAP! Just wanted some backup plans.

Sorry DrJack 54 just want to clarify two points. I can obtain a 90 day Non-O (akin to a single entry visa) inside Thailand? 400K does not need to seasoned for this?
