New system to check criminal record at Thai border?

I saw Benjamin Hart mention a new system at the airports in Thailand that will cross-reference if travellers have outstanding arrest warrants and/or criminal record when they arrive at the border.

 

Is this true? This is exactly what Thailand should do to weed out all the dodgy foreigners here.

They've had these checks in place for a long time. What's new is that the checks can now be performed before the traveler rocks up at the immigration counter, using the passenger data that the airline provides.

 

That speeds up the process at inbound immigration, and you might even get a special welcome at the gate.
