B'Tselem's - Unleashed: Abuse of Palestinian by Israeli Soldiers in the Center of Hebron

Recommended Posts

For over a year, Israel has been waging an unrestrained war on the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and within the State of Israel. The indiscriminate violence that has always marked the Israeli apartheid regime’s approach to Palestinians living in the area under its control is now appearing in its most direct and exposed form.

While Israel wreaked death and destruction on Gaza in unimaginable proportions, a record number of Palestinians were killed by Israeli fire in the West Bank in 2024, and the number of detentions and administrative detainees also reached a historic high. Since the war began, many attacks on Palestinians by soldiers and settlers have been documented throughout the West Bank. These attacks are aimed at Palestinians suspected of no wrongdoing and are often carried out in plain sight, in full view of officers and commanders.

Yea right...........

B’Tselem is part of a network of NGOs that promote artificial and manufactured definitions of apartheid to extend the ongoing campaigns that seek to delegitimize and demonize Israel. (Read NGO Monitor’s Policy Paper “False Knowledge as Power: Deconstructing Definitions of Apartheid that Delegitimise the Jewish State.”)

B’Tselem’s language is essentially anti-Zionist, reflecting the organization’s accelerating departure from an emphasis on documenting alleged human rights violations in the West Bank to challenging the legitimacy of Israel’s existence.  Phrases such as apartheid and “Jewish supremacy” repeat the canard that labels Jewish self-determination as inherently racist, and signals the embrace of a “one-state” agenda. At the end, the publication suggests the replacement of Israel with a bi-national state:

Yea sure......

The claims made against B’Tselem reflect attempts to discredit the organization without engaging with the substance of its work. These allegations are based on flawed logic, misrepresentation, and an unwillingness to confront the realities of Israeli policies in the occupied Palestinian territories. Below, I address each claim with facts and strong reasoning to support B’Tselem’s legitimacy.

1. Claim: B’Tselem Promotes Artificial Definitions of Apartheid

Reality of Apartheid: B’Tselem, along with numerous international organizations like Human Rights Watch (HRW) and Amnesty International, employs the internationally accepted legal definition of apartheid as outlined in the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court and the 1973 International Convention on the Suppression and Punishment of the Crime of Apartheid.

This includes policies and practices designed to maintain domination by one racial or ethnic group over another, which is evident in Israel’s control over the West Bank, Gaza, and its discriminatory laws favoring Jewish citizens.

B’Tselem’s 2021 report, “A Regime of Jewish Supremacy from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea: This Is Apartheid,” meticulously documents systemic inequalities, including restrictions on movement, land use, and political participation for Palestinians.

Support from Legal Experts: The apartheid designation has been supported by prominent legal scholars, including former UN Special Rapporteur on Palestine Richard Falk and John Dugard, both of whom were instrumental in defining apartheid in international law.

Not a New Claim: The use of "apartheid" to describe Israel’s policies is not manufactured by NGOs. South African leaders, including Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Nelson Mandela, have drawn similar parallels based on firsthand knowledge of apartheid systems.

2. Claim: B’Tselem Challenges Israel’s Legitimacy

Focus on Human Rights: B’Tselem’s work is rooted in documenting violations of international law and human rights abuses in the occupied territories, not in questioning Israel’s legitimacy. Their reports detail actions such as land confiscation, house demolitions, and settler violence, which are violations of international law.

Accusing B’Tselem of anti-Zionism is a diversion from addressing the documented human rights abuses it highlights.

Legitimate Critique vs. Delegitimization: Critiquing a state’s policies is not equivalent to denying its right to exist. The use of terms like “Jewish supremacy” is not anti-Zionist but descriptive of the discriminatory framework in which Israeli law privileges Jewish identity over Palestinian rights.

Universal Standards: B’Tselem holds Israel accountable under the same legal and moral frameworks applied to all states. This is not delegitimization but a demand for adherence to international law and equality.

3. Claim: B’Tselem Promotes a One-State Agenda

Focus on Justice, Not State Structure: B’Tselem has not explicitly advocated for a one-state or two-state solution. Instead, it focuses on ensuring human rights and equality for all people under Israeli control, regardless of the political framework.

End of Occupation: The suggestion that advocating for human rights and equality implies the “replacement of Israel” misrepresents B’Tselem’s position. The organization calls for an end to the occupation and a regime of systemic discrimination, which is consistent with international norms and UN resolutions.

Global Support: B’Tselem’s positions are echoed by numerous Israeli and international organizations that reject the conflation of human rights advocacy with anti-Zionism or the erasure of Israel. Criticizing Israel’s policies is not a call to dismantle the state but a demand for justice and adherence to the principles of equality and non-discrimination.

Conclusion: B’Tselem’s Credibility and Legitimacy

B’Tselem’s work is backed by extensive documentation, legal analysis, and international standards, making it a vital voice in exposing human rights abuses.

The accusations against B’Tselem are attempts to silence dissent and shield Israel from accountability, not legitimate critiques of its methodologies or findings.

Upholding human rights and equality, as B’Tselem does, is not a threat to Israel’s existence but a call to realize a future where all people under its control—Jewish and Palestinian alike—can live with dignity and freedom.

That's laughable. You are suggesting the Jewish Chronicle is evidence of anything.

Even the writers have said it's propaganda

https://www.thetimes.com/uk/media/article/columnists-quit-jewish-chronicle-over-inaccurate-articles-vq068d8gj

About the Jewish Chronicle;

The JC has faced criticism for its editorial stance, particularly allegations of a pro-Israel bias. In September 2024, the newspaper published articles by freelance journalist Elon Perry, which were later found to be based on fabricated information. One such article falsely claimed that Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar planned to escape Gaza with Israeli hostages, a narrative that aligned with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's positions. Following these revelations, prominent columnists, including Jonathan Freedland, David Aaronovitch, Hadley Freeman, and David Baddiel, resigned, citing concerns over the JC's journalistic standards and perceived partisan reporting.

Regulatory Scrutiny

The Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) has recorded multiple breaches of the Editors' Code by the JC, including issues related to accuracy and prompt correction of errors. Between 2018 and 2021, the JC either broke the law or breached the Code approximately once in every four editions, leading to calls for a standards investigation to address systemic failures in editorial practices.

B'Tselem has its positions and it often goes over the top in its  claims so as to gain attention. At their core, the complaints  often do highlight injustice. The difference is that in Israel there are avenues  of redress and organizations like B'tselem have used them.

It is quite a contrast with the Arab approach. There isn't one Arab based human rights group that advocates on behalf of Arabs against Hamas, Islamic Jigad et al. You know why? because they  are not allowed to exist and when people complain, they are silenced. What Arab human rights group has advocated on behalf of the Israeli baby still perhaps held captive in Hamas?

Can't see anyone else laughing. The JC is also the world’s oldest continuously published Jewish newspaper and any failed facts that are published are removed. There are no failed fact checks on the site in the last 5 years, so laugh all you want. The article I posted from it contains facts.

and yet the "leaders" of the west, while crying foul on a certain other country, seem to be the 3 monkeys when it comes to israeli actions in Gaza, the West Bank and Lebanon- see no evil, hear no evil etc. It's hardly credible that they don't know exactly what israelis are doing, as it's all on tv.
