Is there anything good about getting old?

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

When I was young, I remember some songs telling me life gets better when one is older, and I laughed about them.

Now I am getting old, and I am not looking forward to getting any older.

Maybe the people who worked in some boring job all their life and who had to take care of children are happy when they finally retire. No work anymore, no annoying children anymore, time for hobbies.

Personally, I like my job. I never wanted children and never had children. Sometimes my life was busier, sometimes not so much. I always had a home, nice enough food, I lived where I wanted to live, had friends, had my hobbies, and I lived happily most of my life. I always lived in the now and didn't save a lot for a future when I am old. I am still ok with money, but I don't have enough until I am 90. But why would I want to be 80 or 90? It's not getting better.

How about you? Is there anything in your life that is more fun with 60, 70, 80, 90 or whatever? Or is it just living another year, with a little more medial issues, with a little less power?

Been very lucky in life from day one......never short of money, never short of 'company'.....I guess that has given me a very distorted perspective of getting old........

When you're young, you have time and energy but no money.

In the middle, you have money and energy but no time.

Towards the end you have time, money, but no energy to really enjoy it.

I still make very infrequent trips to the go-go's and enjoy stroking a beautiful young thing or two, but the get-up-and-go has gone-up-and-got. Still no regrets.

Even I have done everything I wanted in life, life started at 50, and it just gets better.

Never had a boring job, always traveling, but now, I can enjoy it, or Im better at enjoying it without extreme adventures and risking mylife, or work 30 hours straight to finish something.

At once I let go of have to do, and changed it with can do, my life experiences changed to the better.

To be true, a good experience and an necessary experience. All combined with economic crises and finely my back took the toll. But I always had easy to get back in business, and do something new.

Ah, reflection time :cheesy:

My younger mindset was do it all ASAP, as I might crap out anytime, especially since sex, drugs & RR seemed to be my hobby.   Thankfully only a hobby, and not a lifestyle like too many of my peers ... most gone for various reason.

Got all the thrill seeking things out of me; going fast and not killing myself (cars & MC), jump out of perfectly good plane, white water rapid, swim w/sharks.  Waited till TH for bungee, as not paying silly price just for a rubber band thrill.

Remember thinking, stoned in a field thinking, as late teen, about the future, and just thought, this will do, just chillin', with no worries.  So retire ASAP, so can do just that.  Becoming a working class hero, even more so, retire ASAP.

Old age is pretty much just that, but straight, minimal ganga & alcohol.

Give me a guesthouse with a view and good munchies and I'm happy.  Working for airlines, I got traveled out, so no desire, where most seem to travel after retiring.

Never had or wanted kids, but now, since raising one from 2 ish yr old to out of Uni, can't imagine not doing.  Glad I waited till I had the time & money to do it right.

Having kids when most do, would have thrown a wrench into my smiles way back when.  That accidently worked out perfectly.  And a big surprise how rewarding it is/was.  Now can't imagine what the last 20+ yrs would have been without her in my life.

Don't know how I made it to 70, really lucky, blessed, 'God is my co-pilot' (Atheist 🙄), definitely appreciative, and realize how fortunate.

Might even squeeze 10 more year out of being a LPOS 😎

Then, in the hindsight, do you think you lived "wrong"?

Obviously, I also made some mistakes in my life, but in general I think I choose a good path.

More from ignorance and social conditioning, I hadn't realised there was anywhere that sex for normal men was plentiful. If I could go back in time, I wouldn't have worked at all, just lived off the money and properties my parents left me as a single guy.

But, you gotta go to university, then marry, then work hard was conditioned into me, and I was a good little worker ant.

When you were younger, how many times a week did you have sex with a live woman? Company doesn't count, feeling them up doesn't count, only bareback penitration.

I doubt I managed more than once a week, and I've never met any guy that managed more than that in the west.

I used to think once a week was pathetic, but compared to most other normal guys I was incredibly successful with women. I even turned the fat ones down!

One thing I have noticed since I've got older is what I used to do all night takes me all night to do now.

Yeah but when I was working and trying to date women in America all three applied.  One of the benefits of meeting and dating women in LOS is that they don't have to like or even be impressed by you.

My car insurance is cheaper.

I talk to the young boys at work and what they pay is eye watering

As you age you clutch onto the small things lol

“Si jeunesse savait, si vieillesse pouvait”

If youth only knew, if age only could.

It's a well known French proverb with much truth to it.I think that it is right that in most cases wisdom comes with age - though Thailand has many examples of there's no fool like an old fool. With age comes the relief of not much caring what strangers think of you, or feeling the weight of fashion or modish opinions.Generally with age, unless having led a feckless or unproductive life, one is free of financial pressures.

It's important to be able to look back on a life with some meaning. As VS Naipaul memorably said, "The world is what it is.Men who are nothing or have allowed themselves to become nothing have no place in in it."

The owl of Minerva takes flight only at dusk.Awareness and wisdom often tend to be apparent when the shades are drawing in.

You should try to enjoy being old, dying young is just that.

The end.

I don’t spend time thinking about it at all.

It’s the same and plan on continuing unless I come down with a severe case of dementia, then I’ll find a high spot to leap from for a last fun adventure.

Staying physically, mentally and socially active is paramount for a long fulfilling life.

Being old is all about appreciating and celebrating you still alive and kicking. Being young was more about living in the moment, now, as much as possible, as fast as possible, without consequences

I don't know about getting old, but people are just dying to get into the cemetary.
