The Thai Foreign Ministry has advised its citizens against non-essential travel to Syria following the recent overthrow of President Bashar Assad's government by opposition rebels. The Thai Embassy in Tehran, responsible for Syria, has reached out to the 23 Thai nationals present there since the turmoil began on December 8, assuring that all are safe for now.

Most of these individuals reside in Damascus, with one based in Daraa, near Jordan. The group includes masseurs, students, and people married to Syrians. The embassy is poised to assist in evacuation processes if necessary.

Constant monitoring and communication with Thai nationals remain a priority for the embassy, and they are encouraging those in Syria to remain informed about developments and restrict their travel within the country. This proactive stance demonstrates Thailand's commitment to safeguarding its citizens amidst the ongoing political upheaval.
