In a gastronomic twist, Pad Kaprao has reclaimed its status as Thailand's most-ordered dish in Foodpanda's 2024 statistics, with a staggering 800,000 orders. The spicy basil stir-fry, lauded globally by TasteAtlas as the world's best stir-fried dish, has surged past its 2023 rival, fried rice.

Joining the top culinary ranks are favourites such as fried rice, Som Tum Thai (papaya salad), and Khao Man Gai (chicken rice), which secured 500,000 orders. Pad Kaprao, celebrated for its quick preparation and flavourful punch, often paired with a crispy fried egg, continues to reign as the "comfort food king".

Interestingly, Foodpanda's search data paints a slightly different picture, with Som Tum Thai leading. This shows its popularity among office workers seeking bold, fresh flavours. Other commonly searched dishes include Khao Man Gai, noodles, and the spicy Yum salad.

Foodpanda’s Managing Director, Thomas Von Mossner, highlighted the country’s varied taste, stating, "Despite Thailand’s diverse cuisines, customers still prefer traditional Thai single-dish meals and familiar à la carte options."

To spotlight Thailand's culinary diversity and support local businesses, Foodpanda has launched its "deals and choices" campaign. Partnering with over 2,175 restaurants, they offer discounts on over 200 signature dishes, aimed at encouraging domestic spending through to January 31, 2025.

As a celebratory bonus, a 20% discount and an extra 50 baht off are available with the code HIT50. It's the perfect opportunity to enjoy Thailand's gastronomic delights at attractive prices!

I often wonder why things like this are relevant in this day and age, why would I care about what the most popular dishes are? Why would I care about what the most frequently ordered dishes, why do I care about which song is number one? Why do I care about the 10 most popular TV shows? I often look at these lists and I just can't relate on any level, what most people think is great I don't necessarily think is interesting at all.

These days if something is exceptionally popular I typically run for the hills! Yikes. Super popular? No thanks.

No surprise, as if I don't see something else of interest on a menu, there's always KaPrao to save the day.  One of the few dishes, vendors screw up.  Though I do prefer noodles over rice.

Cheap and available... hardly a gastronomic delight.

In a country where so many men think that tobacco smoke is so so much better than air....

Thai food, with the bad cheap oil, heated to the point of toxicity, then adding some refined sugar to make sure that the food at least taste something, leading to being recognized as food, let alone on top of a positive list, is nothing short of amazing.

Extremely difficult to make yourself . Takes hours . Requires the culinary skill and patience equal to beans on toast and just as yummy as an easy snack.
