You will get better results by searching google. Type in the subject of the thread followed by aseannow.

E.g.- https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=chiang+mai+restaurants+aseannow

you're correct... the built in search function is hardly useful

I use Google advanced search at:

http://www.google.com/advanced_search?hl=en

and I enter: aseannow.com/topic into the field labelled: site or domain

play around with the search terms to get the best results

Thank you both - much appreciated. I find that even sadder that I need to use an external search engine to find what I want rather than a search engine within the site itself. Says a lot really.

Thanks again.

to be fair.... providing a great search function is not a simple thing to accomplish.  The top search engines do make it look easy but there is a lot of design and computing resources behind it.

It's really sad is that you're using AN to find, promote, or review a restaurant.

Was considering The Dukes or Billy for Christmas day dinner. Any others I should be thinking about? Thanks.

La Casita mexican restaurant, just off moonmuang, great soft shell chicken tacos at 75bht each with free chips and dips.

Auf Der au German buffet (went this morning) 240bht for all you can eat with coffee and tea included. Just along from Ripping by the river.

RajDarBar Indian restaurant, chicken jalfrezi with naan bread around 240bht. LOI kro.

Khualek cafe does a really good red curry with rice for about 120bht with views of the river. Opposite Ramping by the river.

Hummus is a superb restaurant.   Not fancy, but the food is exceptional.

Wish I could agree, but their hummus is terrible.

Okay, we are on the other side of the earth from the land of hummus, but with a

name like that you'd expect better.

Just a can of garbanzo beans thrown into a blender.

Hardly any garlic or tahini by the taste of it.

If any olive oil it was cheap-cheap oil; mostly corn oil, soybean oil etc. with zero taste or aroma.

I say don't waste your money on the Hummus from Hummus Restaurant.

Ironic, isn't it.

Hummus

Ingredient Quantity
Chickpeas 1 can
Tahini 1/4 cup
Lemon juice 1/4 cup
Garlic 2 cloves
Olive oil 2 tbsp
Cumin 1 tsp
Salt To taste

Water

As needed

Had lunch today at Norden the Swedish restaurant which has been smartened up since my last visit. One standout item on the menu for this bloke is the halibut which never disappoints. Top spot.

I second that recommendation from @Mahseer for Norden restaurant.

I can recommend the "Fish Duo".

With fish cooked to perfect tenderness -- not every restaurant fish cooked perfectly like that.

Meatballs excellent, too.

Tasted home-made (but I'm no expert).

Lingonberries not overly tart.

Even the essential mash potatoes were good taste.

I am surprised no mention so far of That's It Schnitzel.

Such good food.

Is it new in Chiang Mai?

I just discovered it a few weeks ago (thanks to Food Panda).

I ordered Chicken Schnitzel sandwich.

With "original sauce" plus grilled eggplant optional "topping".

Really delicious.

And a very generous size, too.

Now schnitzel looks like a simple food to cook, but it is not.

Cook too fast, and it gets tough because the meat is so thin.

Cook too slow and the crust is cooked, but the meat is raw.

Cooked just right takes a careful touch and, probably, years of experience.

That's It Schnitzel was just right: tender and juicy

The egg bread sandwich roll excellent, too.

Fresh, soft, delicious bread.

I don't know if they sell just the bread rolls alone, but if they did, I'd bet would be very popular.

Alas, and sad to say, forget the falafel.

Not bad, but not good.

Bland and a little bit dry, which is not nice for falafel to be.

By "bland" I don't mean should be more spicy.

I just mean overall lack of any flavor.

Save your appetite for the Schnitzel.

"Make by Yourselt" doesn't really mean you actually make it.

It's just their way to say you can select from a variety of toppings and sauces.

Any good recommendations for out in the Doi Saket area?

Pizza Plus on the Bosang-Doisaket road about a kilometer south of the 118 intersection. Good menu and food, won’t be disappointed, I usually go for the salmon. Pizza is pretty good too.

Pizza Plus is one of my favorites too, I usually go for the Turkish Pizza and my daughters choose Spaghetti Carbonara and Spaghetti Seafood Kee Mao.

Great food and nice hosts.

Wey-La-Dee is not in Doi Saket, but it is on that side of Chiang Mai.

In a small soi behind Thai Watsadu.

Link below to their page in the Michelin Guide.

Very, very nice food with an emphasis on quality.

And careful service, too.

I read on this forum that it can get crowded with obnoxious Chinese tourists,

but my one experience eating there was pleasant.

It's time to roll this one out again....

BEST PLACES TO EAT IN CHIANG MAI

I'm looking for something really noteworthy. Price is not a consideration unless it's fabulously overpriced for what you get.

Some of the well-known names have their ups and downs quality-wise over time. What's the state of play these days?

Thanks

I booked ShangriLa Hotel
