Thai tax tangle: Expats warned of new rules on overseas income
I think in all fairness the challenge that advisors have is tht the governemtn really is not letting people know. This was set up as stated for the rich to have to pay. I firmly believe that a lot of us were not even thought of. I talked to an advisor a couple of days ago, and he explained that it is only money I bring into the country. However, he advised that my Canadian Penson from the government is exempt, but he was not sure about military pensions or medical benefits. He outlined what I would have to pay and left it at that. I will file only because it is cheap for me, but I think a lot more needs to be outlined. Do Thqais get a break on their mortgage if so that should apply to us. -

Thai tax tangle: Expats warned of new rules on overseas income
Correct. A 'government pension' is one resulting from employment by the govt. Different from a state pension. -

KIWI no good
I booked MNL to BKK on KIWI,com site. At airport in Manila I was told by Cebu Pacific "KIWI didn't pay any luggage". I had paid for 20kg to KIWI. I only had 2h to clear up everything so I paid 66 USD extra in cash. Luckily Cebu Pacific girls took the money and said "We'll take care of extra fee". They didn't need to do so. They were understanding and nice! They showed me KIWI payment to them on big screen on the counter. There were no paid luggage fee. I filed complain to KIWI which was 5 pages of BS run-around nonsense. They tried to avoid refund any way possible but I got time and send copies to press etc. My old pal is Peter S Geenberg - one of most well known travel writer not only in the US but the whole world. That usually helps... so did now too. Only thing these clown fear is bad press. 3 weeks later I only got 46 USD refund. Better than nothing. KIWI has been in news a few times during years for crooked dealings but I hoped they've learned lesson when EU has hit them hard with fines etc. Not so. They are NOT New Zealand company but Czech. "Kiwi.com is a Czech online travel agency founded by Oliver Dlouhý and Jozef Képesi in 2012." Here's more "advertising" how they operate; "Feb 14 (Reuters) - American Airlines (AAL. has settled a lawsuit accusing web platform Kiwi of being a “rogue online travel agent” that used deceptive practices to sell tickets without American’s consent. American said in a filing , opens new tab https://www.reuters.com/legal/litigation/american-airlines-settles-rogue-ticketing-lawsuit-against-kiwi-2024-02-14/ -

Will Crypto Transform Expat Migration into Thailand?
Well, geez, let see. Currently, most expats electronically transfer funds from their home country bank to their Thai bank using the bank's service, or companies like Wise etc. Both charge a fee, and make some money on the exchange rate also. The central banks of both countries are also aware of the transfer. Picture a society where you can pay for everything in crypto. You are paid in crypto in your home country, and you buy a beer or whatever with it in Thailand. No more bank needed in your home country, and Bangkok Bank, Kasikorn etc etc not needed in Thailand. You've cut out all the middlemen and saved some money, and if done in a certain way, private and untraceable. In summary, "migrants" will not have to pay bank fees and lose on exchange rates. -
