A shooting took place in the early hours of 24 December in Chiang Kham district, Phayao province. Police from Chiang Kham Station were alerted to a fatal shooting at house number 39/1, Moo 21, Rom Yen subdistrict, at approximately 01:30. Officers rushed to the scene alongside forensic experts and rescue personnel.

The incident occurred at a two-storey house made of concrete and wood. The lifeless body of Mr. Rungreung Sakchaipiboon, 37, was found lying on his back in the ground-floor living area. Beside his body lay a machete. He had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Shortly after the incident, Mr. Wisut Sakchaipiboon, 58, the victim's father, turned himself in at Chiang Kham Police Station. He surrendered a 12-gauge double-barrelled shotgun without a serial number and a spent shotgun shell.

During questioning, Mr. Wisut confessed to shooting his son. He explained that he had confronted his son about not contributing to household chores or seeking employment. The son reportedly became enraged and grabbed a machete, threatening to attack his father. In response, Mr. Wisut said he fired a single shot at his son in self-defence.

After the shooting, Mr. Wisut immediately surrendered to authorities. Police have charged him with premeditated murder, illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, and discharging a firearm in a residential area.

Neighbours revealed that the father and son frequently argued. According to witnesses, the victim often refused to help with household tasks and became aggressive when reprimanded, sometimes physically assaulting family members.

Condoms are a nice invention to stop children with that behavior.
No need to shoot them.

It would seem that firearm ownership in Thailand is approaching  that in the USA. When I first came to Thailand nearly forty years ago reported shootings were rare. Maybe because of no internet but I doubt it. Is Thailand now the Hub of firearm ownership in South East Asia?

But they don't work retroactively.

It doesn’t sound like premeditated murder. The father probably was pushed too far and when the son grabbed his machete his father finally took action in fear of his life. He shot him in the stomach so it doesn’t look like he planned it and was just trying to end the situation.
Gun use is becoming more common, but I’d rather be shot than hacked to death with axes, knives or machetes like they used to do, and still do.

Seems like the Thais do not have a natural "brake" when angry! Seems like the brain goes full "lock down" ..thats why you should never argue with Thai people. Turn and walk away before things get heated! Then you might survive!
