Teenager Dies After Gun Misfire in Samut Prakan

An 18-year-old mechanical college student lost his life after accidentally shooting himself in the groin while handling a firearm. The incident occurred inside a house in Soi Muang Kaew 6, Bang Kaew, Bang Phli District, Samut Prakan Province.

 

Police from Bang Kaew Police Station, accompanied by medics and rescue teams, rushed to the scene on December 30, following reports of a serious gunshot injury. Upon arrival, they found Mr. Ratchanon, a second-year mechanical student from a technical college in Bang Chak, lying in a pool of blood with a gunshot wound to his groin. Emergency responders performed CPR before transporting him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

 

The investigation revealed that the incident took place inside the victim's home, approximately 100 metres from where he was found. A trail of blood led police to the house, where they discovered a homemade firearm believed to have caused the injury. Further searches uncovered two additional homemade firearms, gun components, and two knives in the victim's bedroom.

 

A 15-year-old friend, identified as Mr. A, who was present during the incident, explained that the victim had been examining the firearm when it accidentally discharged while being pulled from his waistband. After the gun misfired, Mr. A attempted to carry the injured victim to the entrance of the alley to seek help.

 

Mr. Sayan, 42, the victim's uncle, said he believed the two teenagers were playing with the gun when it accidentally fired. He was informed of the incident and rushed to the scene, where he found the injured teenager lying face down and unresponsive.

 

A local vendor, Mrs. Wichian, 71, who witnessed the aftermath, reported that the victim was still conscious when he was brought to the alley entrance but later lost consciousness before rescue workers arrived.

 

Police have secured all evidence and are questioning witnesses to determine the exact circumstances of the incident. The victim's body has been sent to the forensic institute for an autopsy. Legal proceedings are underway to address the possession of illegal firearms and establish accountability.

A sad thing to happen, but it could have saved lives and taken a few guns off the streets.  Who knows what these guns were going to be used for?

I remember a similar kind of shooting incident when we were shooting on a range near Thetford  UK, the range office called to stop firing and the one person pulled the slide back and cleared the gun then dropped the gun down below his waist and pressed the trigger, one bullet was still in the barrel and it entered the top of his leg severing an artery. The police came and interviewed the few people who had not already quickly left....

I can remember at range firing practice when I was in the RAF. It ran something like this;

 

Gun fires, gun stops

 

1 remove the magazine, if it is empty you ran out of ammunition.

2  remove the magazine, if it is NOT empty, work the cocking mechanism 4 or 5 times, always pointing the weapon down range.

3 Cock, lock and look. Cock the weapon, lock with the safety catch on, point the weapon up and forward, put your thumb into the chamber and look for daylight on your thumbnail. If you see daylight the barrel is clear. If not call the range master to deal with it.

4 NEVER turn around with a weapon in your hands and point it.

 

I saw that happen once, and the range master simply kicked the guy as hard as he could before the guy could turn around very far.

 

Nasty dangerous things guns.

 

NEVER to be used as toys or as "look at me. I am a big man with a gun".

 

Out of curiosity, does anybody know if homemade guns have a safety catch?

It's  actually a very good hobby, the dumb part was he bought a home made gun, should have gone to a shooting range and rented a proper gun instead.

That goes against what owning a homemade gun means. Having more at home also means the same thing. Not enough money to buy a regular gun. Not old enough to own a regular gun in Thailand. The need to own an illegal gun(s),  which ,like another said, might have been used in a crime.

That's why I mentioned a shooting range where yo can  rent the gun and pay for the ammo.

I agree, nothing wrong with an interest in guns.

I think a lot of teens are interested, sad he didn't have any guidance, maybe he would have been ok.
