French mafia chaos: Phuket residents slam tourists’ alley blockade - video
Sad but I must agree. They have ruined Paris , LYON, Montpelier and now the Côte d’Azur. They have young kids on lookouts , delivering drugs even last month 2 under 16s were arrested for murder, shot someone who didn’t pay up. It’s hard to believe. A good few years back I lived in Phuket , and saw even then the way they took over the Song loi pi rd. Openly selling their stuff and openly “ working” in their restaurants, calling out to any tourist who passed by. Touting for customers . Police turn a blind eye . With the money they reap in France from the drug trade they can live the life of Riley in Thailand. And then there’s the scams and stolen/ copied credit cards , no end to it. Makes me mad. -

Teenage Girl Injured in Motorbike Crash After Drinking All Night
Picture from responders. A rescue team from the Siam Rayong Foundation was called to the scene of a motorbike crash in Soi 4, Intersection of Soi 3, Route 13, Nikhom Phatthana District, Rayong Province. Upon arrival, they discovered a 16-year-old girl, identified as Miss Sukanda, who had sustained minor injuries after her motorbike skidded and overturned. Concerned locals had already helped her to a nearby bus stop shelter. Residents tried to inquire about her injuries, but the girl appeared disoriented and struggled to answer coherently. She eventually admitted to having been drinking heavily with friends in a nearby village since the previous evening. After a night of partying, she attempted to ride her motorbike home to Rayong City that morning, only to lose control and crash. The rescue team questioned her in hopes of contacting her parents or finding her home address. However, the teenager could not remember where she lived or provide a contact number for her family, recalling only that she lived somewhere in Rayong Province. Out of concern for her safety, rescue workers persuaded her to return to her friend’s house to rest until she sobered up. They transported her to the friend’s residence, advising against riding her motorbike while still intoxicated. Witnesses noted that even as the girl stood, she appeared unsteady and had to be supported by bystanders to prevent further injury. The Siam Rayong Foundation issued a warning about the dangers of drink-driving, stating that this incident should serve as a cautionary tale. “This case was fortunate not to have ended tragically on a major road, where it could have resulted in serious injury or death,” they emphasised. -- 2025-01-18 -

UK Envoy Announces Major Plans for 170-year Thailand Ties
Picture courtesy: UK in Thailand The United Kingdom's Ambassador to Thailand, Mark Gooding, has unveiled an ambitious programme to celebrate 170 years of diplomatic relations between the UK and Thailand. This announcement came at a festive gathering labeled the "170th Anniversary Launch Party" on Thursday evening, held in the historic Postal Theatre of Bangkok's Grand Postal Building. The anniversary, marking over a century and a half of diplomatic engagements, promises a rich calendar of events aimed at strengthening the strategic partnership between the two nations. The Embassy plans a dynamic roadshow, taking its celebration to different corners of Thailand, fostering mutual understanding and opportunities, particularly focusing on engagements with students and the local community. A highlight of the celebrations will be the UK Fair, which seeks to spark dialogue among Thai citizens about the robust and mutually beneficial relationship with the UK. The fair will underscore a shared history and shine a spotlight on emerging opportunities for collaboration between the two countries. Ambassador Gooding expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming celebratory events, which include cultural showcases such as music performances. The UK's renowned London Symphony Orchestra and elements of the UK military’s musical talents are set to grace Thailand with their performances, further cementing cultural ties. Moreover, a series of business events will underscore the economic dimensions of the partnership, addressing shared interests ranging from healthcare innovations to advancements in science and technology. The UK boasts being the first European nation to craft a strategic partnership with Thailand, a relationship built on shared interests and collaboration. Ambassador Gooding reflected on the enduring nature of this partnership, emphasizing the shared global challenges both countries face. "Our strategic partnership looks to the future, and there's much more ground to cover," he noted. Key sectors for growth include healthcare, genomics, and international security, mirroring mutual interests in economic growth and citizen protection. He further highlighted the importance of adapting to the rapidly shifting global landscape, particularly considering 21st-century challenges such as environmental changes. This year-long celebration promises not only to honour past achievements but also to pave the way for stronger future collaborations under this evolving partnership. In sum, the celebrations seem set to not only cement the existing bond between the UK and Thailand but also inspire new avenues for future partnerships. With a slew of cultural, educational, and economic events, the foundation laid 170 years ago is poised for rejuvenation and expansion. The event series also represents an opportunity to engage with the broader Thai community, aiming to bring a slice of the UK to the heart of Thailand, reported Bangkok Post. -- 2025-01-18
