Rubbish!

You certainly haven't refuted what I asserted. The cheaper places aren't desirable places to live.

You surely jest...or else you've most certainly taken leave of your senses. Yes, I've been to the USA on multiple occasions. The food, in general, was crap. Supermarket food, was crap. marketing over substance. Quantity over quality. To get close to European standards you had to go to Wholefoods. Where did GMO originate? The good ole USA...with Monsanto pushing their crap worldwide.

How much would you like to bet? Would you like to start at US$50k?

Yes. Was it not clear the first time?

Yeah...so join the queue with everyone else here. You aren't special because you were born in the USA. Quit the hyperbole, as it just makes you look ridiculous.

Visiting the US gives you only a fraction of what goes on there yearly. The food is as good as anywhere on earth, as there are many transplanted chefs from all over the world there, along with their recipes. The supermarkets are among the best worldwide, carrying more variety than most anywhere. We have Wholefoods and many other health oriented supermarkets there, along with hundreds of Asian markets run by Asians. I've been to many of them, as I've eaten healthy all of my life and seek out the same.

Murderous police forces? Maybe certain unstable individuals , like the one here who murdered 23 toddlers and a few parents and teachers. That happens all over.

People aren't special because of where they were born. All countries have good and bad, and it's up to the individual to act special to others, no matter where they came from.

To live in Thailand?

What do you mean by "live"?

Do you mean just to remain alive, or to actually LIVE in Thailand?

Most here, probably, are not living here.

Instead, they are just existing here.

Existing is not living.

The majority of TV members, one might imagine, are WAY out of their depth in Asia, and therefore Thailand.

One might as well ask:

a.  What percentage of the TV members speak Thai fairly fluently

b.  Of those, what further percentage would gladly leave Thailand if you gave them USD200.00 in cash

c. As for me, nobody could pay me enough to leave Thailand; I love it so.

d. This is what is meant by living in Thailand, and not being a pretender, of which there are are just too many in Pattaya.

e.  I DO live in Asia, simply because I have been living here for over 44 years.

f.  If I were not living in Thailand, then I could not be living anywhere else, since I have not lived anywhere else during the past 44 years.

g.  Also, I could not be NOT living here if I were, indeed, not living elsewhere, and still be here to reply to this Topic.

h. So, I must be living SOMEWHERE, obviously.  And, if I am not living outside Thailand, and I know that I am not, than I must be living within the borders of Thailand.

i.  I both live in Thailand and also feel alive in Thailand.

You know what the OP means - why change it to another topic?

I never had to train my kids about that, and they never experienced any of it, nor did millions of other children. Australia seems to be pretty nice in some ways, and I would love to visit Cairns to catch a Marlin but more people die there from snake, shark, crocodile and spider bites than most other countries. They also don't have the quality of fresh water fishing and hunting the US has.

Really? You didn't have to tell your kids how to not get shot by the police?

That never came up. I taught my children to protect themselves and not to trust just anyone. They respect the police, as i do, even though some of them are unstable, mentally ill humans. That's why some go into power. To control.

Just observations as to how you constantly praise yourself and denigrate others. How you are super sensitive to any criticism and how you label others as narcissists whilst claiming that you are the opposite. All this I noticed within a week of my joining.

You certainly could not hurt my feelings 😊 I can take care of myself.

I actually think your behaviour is typically American.

Been here nearly 20 years, for work.  Married, but not to a Thai, with a 9-year-old.  Burnt my bridges for moving back to the UK, so most likely here for good!

Interesting, Next month I will celebrate my twentieth year here in Thailand. I have been trying to keep my bridges open for years now but it is becoming more and more difficult as inflation is ravaging the West. I had a good friend die here in Thailand recently. He was 88 years old and had burned his bridges many years before. He could no longer afford healthcare and died a miserable painful death.

Show me where I constantly praise myself and denigrate others. Sticking up for myself when some troll calls me names isn't denigrating when I point out their narcissistic traits. My behavior is what someone with self esteem and a dislike for prejudiced asses shows. If you knew the definition of a narcissist, you would understand why I dislike them and how I act quite the opposite. I come here mostly to help, which isn't a narc's trait.

Actually I pointed it out to you just recently, where you were calling @MalcolmB names when they did nothing of the sort to you. You were the one name-calling, but here you are claiming the opposite. You also called them narcissistic....and here you are claiming that you are the opposite of that too.

I don't see you helping, I see you only talking about yourself, praising yourself and denigrating others. I  am simply writing what I see with no bias. Maybe @MalcolmB likes a bit of a wind up, but the name-calling all comes from you.

I expect you will deny and claim otherwise in the face of clear evidence.

Let's not make it all about you. You asked and I answered. Let's move on.

You just said you just joined here recently. This means you know very little to none about other posters here , and are only going by what you've read so far. If you knew him like the rest of us here know him,you would fully understand why I said what I did. Both in defense and in pointing out the glaringly obvious. If you know what a troll is, you know they are here to antagonize and not offer any help. Just to argue for the sake of arguing. If you take the time to see all of my posts and replies in many topics, you would understand more. Do you know what a narcissist is? Meaning a narcissistic personality and not just most of us who have self esteem and take selfies? He has been called worse by others but you haven't seen but a fraction of what goes on here. When you read a post, you can't just skim over it and miss all of what people say. That's how you'll get the whole picture of what goes on and why people say certain things. You can't get that from just one topic.

This thread degraded to US vs the world hate exchange.

In 2024 I've spent 6.5 months in Thailand, a little bit more than the requirement to be a tax resident, but this year planning to spend 7 months in Oz and 2 in Europe to avoid tax residency issues. I was here on O-A initially, then converted to Non-O retirement,  later this year planning to move to DTV as I would be spending less than 180 days here.

No reason or desire to leave, even if not having wife & kid.  Final decision to stay was ~5 yrs ago, when contracted to build 3rd house, for the purpose of staying.  First 2 houses were built, simply because I needed a comfy place to live, till kid was done High School.

Reality being, after high school, I had no reason to stay in TH.  Especially since she attended Uni in a different province.  Daughter now lives in a different province.

3rd, present house, built for the long haul, having solar, greenhouse/garden, even chickens soon.  Bought extra lots on dead end soi, for investment, but more to ensure no neighbors.   Will buy the last 3 lots, when available, for same reason.

BEVs, that will probably out last me.  Plan on staying till the last bbq.

Thank you, @still kicking, for bringing up this topic, because I had no idea that many/most posters are NOT in Thailand (or regular, frequent visitors like the off-shore men).

That explains why so much monkey chatter noise here.

So many posters just don't have first-hand experience or any recent experience on topics related to expat living.

So why do they pollute the forum with endless silly comments?

My own "ignore user" list has hundreds of user names, and still growing.

Shouldn't be like that, but it is like that.

It's the only way I know to stay focused on topics that are relevant to expat living in Thailand.

Well, this topic has helped me to understand a bit more than before.

Okay, I understand. It was @MalcolmB's fault that you behaved badly.....due to your high self esteem and intolerance towards "prejudiced asses".

Thank you for edumacating me about NP, as before you informed me, I was sure it was just people who took 'selfies'.

Thank you for letting me know that I don't know anything like you do and I should look through all of your posts to find out how helpful you are. I apologise that I've only seen your contemporary posts where you appear to name call or just praise yourself.

Thank you for letting me know that I was just skimming over your posts and somehow missed everything that you wrote.

I hope my reply is somewhat enlightening to you, but on current showing, I doubt it. Why not just agree to disagree and move on?
