A multi-vehicle collision at a red-light junction in Chonburi left 12 people injured, including a critically injured 3-year-old child. The incident occurred at 14:30 on 12 January 2025 at the Kiri traffic lights on Sukhumvit Road, in the Samet subdistrict of Mueang Chonburi district.

Police and rescue services from the Tri Khunatham Foundation arrived on the scene to find four severely damaged vehicles and multiple injured passengers.

Vehicles Involved:

1. Black MG Saloon (Bangkok Registration):

The front and rear of the vehicle were damaged. It carried five passengers, including two men, one woman, and two children (one boy and one girl), all of whom sustained injuries.

2. White Mitsubishi Triton Pickup Truck (Chonburi Registration):

Both the front and rear of the truck were crushed. Four people, including one man, one woman, and two children (a boy and a girl), were injured.

3. White Mazda Saloon (Bangkok Registration):

The vehicle carried five passengers, two men, one woman, and two boys, all of whom were injured.

4. Green Isuzu D-Max Pickup Truck (Bangkok Registration):

The front of the vehicle was completely wrecked. The driver, who was travelling alone, sustained a head injury.

Rescue workers provided first aid at the scene before transferring all injured individuals to Chonburi Hospital.

Ms Bee, the driver of one of the saloon cars, said her vehicle was stationary at the red light as she prepared to take her family to Bang Saen Beach when she suddenly heard a loud crash. Moments later, her car was hit, leaving it badly damaged and her family injured.

Mr Wisanuwat the driver of the green Isuzu pickup truck, admitted that he was on his way home from work in Nong Mon, Saensuk subdistrict, when the collision occurred. He stated that he tried to brake and they failed, so he was unable to stop in time, causing his vehicle to crash into the stationary cars.

Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the area and plan to conduct further interviews with all drivers involved to determine the cause of  and take appropriate legal action.

Reports indicate that a 3-year-old child sustained critical injuries in the crash. Authorities have not confirmed whether the child is male or female or which vehicle they were travelling in.

RIP young sole

so most of those injuries were caused by 2 things, 1/ pickup driver not paying attention to the road and or driving too fast, ( brakes do not suddenly fail in a modern car) and 2/ lack of using restraints in the vehicles

They can do.

I had a new Audi.

On one journey, the brakes failed but I managed to slow down by 'wedging' the car between two others that were stopped in a multi-lane traffic jam.

That was a sudden failure.

Took the car back to the garage - nothing wrong with the brakes they said.

Happened again a week or two later.

Braked to slow down before a bend and the car spun round and put itself upside down in a ditch.

Garage collected it, put a new body shell on it and then they crashed it when they road tested it.

They blamed me, saying that I had not warned them about the dodgy brakes.

I had warned them - twice. They assumed that I was telling porky pies.

It was an intermittent fault with the ABS system.

I always put my hazards on, on fast moving, busy roads when the traffic lights turn to red......leave a nice big gap to the car in front, repeatedly press the brake pedal and watch the rear view like a hawk........in Thailand.

sorry misread this line - Reports indicate that a 3-year-old child sustained critical injuries in the crash. Authorities have not confirmed whether the child is male or female or which vehicle they were travelling in.

'Saving face' is one of the three governing principles in Thailand. So generate money and taking care are the 2 others.

The principles are the pillars of the culture here, and accepted by most if not all.

The 'saving face' one is supported and requires that lies be accepted for that purpose.

Brake failure is one of these lies, at least in the understanding of foreigners. Thais might just go silent at worst when presented with a 'saving face' lie.

Yes, there are to many phones involved....more phones than brakes.
