Father and Son, Both Border Patrol Police Officers, Killed in Narathiwat Bomb Attack

An ambush in Narathiwat claimed the lives of a father and son, both serving as Border Patrol Police officers and educators. The incident occurred on the Si Sakhon-Chanae road near Ban Air Gia Nae in Sri Banphot Subdistrict, Si Sakhon District, Narathiwat Province.

 

At approximately 10:00 on January 14, Si Sakhon Police Station received reports of an explosion targeting a white pickup truck travelling along the road. It was later confirmed that the attack was followed by gunfire, causing the deaths of two individuals:

 

1. Police Lieutenant Colonel Suwit 56 – Principal of the Border Patrol Police School (BPP School) in Ban Tue Ngor, Sri Banphot Subdistrict, Narathiwat.

 

2. Police Senior Sergeant Major Dome 35 – Suwit’s son and also a Border Patrol officer at the same school.

 

Initial investigations revealed that both officers had left the school in their personal pickup truck to purchase supplies in Ra-ngae District. However, en route, they were targeted by a roadside bomb planted by unknown assailants. The explosion damaged their vehicle, killing them instantly.

 

Due to concerns about additional explosive devices, the Si Sakhon Police coordinated with the 49th Ranger Task Force to secure the area. Drones were deployed to survey the scene before officers and medical teams moved in to recover the bodies and examine the site.

 

The tragedy has deeply affected the Ban Tue Ngor BPP School, where Suwit served as the principal, overseeing a team of 13 teachers and 120 students.

 

Lt. Col. Suwit was a revered figure in his community. A former recipient of the prestigious Princess Maha Chakri Award for his dedication to education in remote and conflict-prone areas, Suwit had spent over two decades transforming the lives of underprivileged children.

 

Suwit’s journey began as a student in a Border Patrol Police school in Phatthalung Province. Witnessing the sacrifices made by his teachers inspired him to follow in their footsteps. After becoming a teacher, he dedicated himself to improving access to education for children in the most underserved areas of Narathiwat. His efforts extended beyond the classroom, where he encouraged children to embrace self-sufficiency and moral values aligned with royal initiatives.

 

In 2015, Suwit was honoured with the “Teacher of Excellence” award, highlighting his selfless contributions to the nation. His passing marks a great loss not only for his family and colleagues but also for the many lives he touched during his career.

 

Authorities continue to investigate the attack, which underscores ongoing security challenges in the region. The Thai government has pledged to intensify efforts to ensure the safety of educators and residents in conflict-affected provinces.

The religion of peace strikes again.

Couple of things strike me;

 

Roadside IED was triggered presumably by a person, ergo there was someone waiting in the bushes for the right moment. That indicates that they knew their target would be travelling on that road at that time.

 

Followed by gunfire, so even more people waiting in the bushes? Again this pangs of a pre-planned ambush based on intelligence.

Most of the Thailand, Yes.

But different story for  3 of the deep south provinces: Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat.

Decades of violence going  on by separatist: Want to revert to Malaysia.

3 areas used to be the part of Pattani Kingdom till early 20th century.
