Recently I heard that Thailand has rolled out new tax laws under which all expats receiving money from abroad need to file some tax returns with revenue department by 30th March.

Not sure about the details. Can anyone let me know if there is any additional requirement u need to fulfil other than 400K in the bank for Non O Marriage visa extension, as I have an annual extension coming up next month.

thank you in advance .

No….not as yet….but I would put money on it coming in eventually.

It seems an obvious way to catch a good proportion of us.

No.  And don't suggest it to them.

AN thread from last week.

Funny how the revenue boss makes the statement in the media and many AN members post THEIR interpretation of the policy, like the revenue boss gives a damn.

He's told all foreigners to file and declare all income remitted.  Pretty clear.

As I have said before, fail to obey his command and things could get nasty come extension time.

Please show us where he mentions "foreigners" in his statement?

He said tax residents from memory or something similar........

Foreigners staying over 180 days in Thailand are tax residents, even though they are foreigners, right?

yes but that is not what you said as you well know.

You raise an interesting point, and one that I have know since this tax news broke, but others may not have given thought to it.

We all know "Thailand is for Thai's" and "You will always be a farang here" and the dual pricing, no rights, foreign ownership of property etc etc etc etc.  Basically, tolerated, but not accepted.

Now, along comes this tax policy, and isn't it funny that for once foreigners are on equal par with Thai's, but unfortunately, it's to do with revenue raising.

So, rejoice AN members and readers, if you stay in Thailand for 180 days, you will be treated equally as a Thai.  Wonderful news, isn't it.  :cheesy:
