Thailand as a Future Destination for Relocation

And here I am 75 about to pack up my home in Rotherham UK with my Thai wife and young son  and relocate to Sakhon Nakon Isan. The UK is done for my wife complains she never sees a white person. 15 Minute Cities in full swing roads narrowed and roadworks everywhere for no good reason. They are hell bent on getting us out of our cars by 2030. Everything is run by Women with an emotional connotation NHS shops you name it. Asians are now well imbedded into the councils so the 5 pillars of Islam comes first. Hundreds of people with a Azbos for Face Book comments in face more than Russian. So with that in mind I have made my decision. Having lived in South Africa I did give returning some consideration but with this new land grab I think I will give it a miss, I have travelled Thai on my bike from North to south and  in Samui in 1994 so have seen a lot of changes. I have 5 fai in my sons name he was born there and I don’t mind the quite of villages life as I will always find something to do. Build a house on the land for a start. So guys I am coming to stay for good bad and I hope not too much Tax

The correct comparison isn't Thailand 2025 vs Thailand 1980.  The best comparison is Thailand 2025 vs Back Home 2025.

 

When I returned in 2019 to the USA after 20 years in Asia (10 of those in Thailand), it was not the same place I left.  I'm staying in China now for personal reasons (sick GF), but I plan to retire to Thailand.  I love it here.  (I'm in BKK for my monthly visa run). 

 

But I'd also be remiss not to check out Mexico, just because it's a 2 hour flight to see the family and get Medicare, not a 30 hour travesty from LOS.  That's the only downside to Thailand, especially with "pre-existing conditions" that make health insurance so expensive at my age.

 

actually I get a newsletter almost daily from "Nomad Capitalist" and from the articles I read, changes amond countries are taking place daily.  Some countries are searching for RICH and UltraRICH people while some will settle for well off retirees.  Tax systems are also changing in many countries as so many signed onto the OECD agreement.  Therefore, one even contemplating relocating to another potentially retiree-heaven, must be kept up to date on any recent changes possible changes by seeking a local forum to get the impressions of the expats in that location.  Best of luck.

The problem with Latin American countries in general are the sicarios and cartels. Shame they have a grip on the area.

 

Southeast Asia is the best place followed by East Europe then portions of Africa.

I have enjoyed being retired here for 13+ years but am looking closer at Southern Mexico as a plan B.

nationalism is just as high as ever in Thailand after decades of this crap being in their faces and I think the social engineers may try and blame tourists for any woes in the nation here on out,..

I have been here(Chiang Mai) for nearly 2 decades by now.

Sometime last year, there was an Anti-Alien gathering in Phuket, after some 1st world trashes made headlines.

I, myself,  have never felt any collective hostile eyes to foreigners, while there a very few haters of foreigners(like any countries).

 

Mass media often greatly exaggerates negative phenomenon  for their ratings.

Thailand is pretty much the same as you used to know about.

So you don't really have to worry about it.

Hope your (early)retirement plan works out well...

We do have a base in Thailand, but I have moved back to Norway, and my wife will follow next year, and build our next home, and both will start working. I actually miss working after being semi-retired, and the potential for both living quality and also a healthy lifestyle is much better in Norway. 

 

I actually got bored after travelling all over Thailand several times by motorbikes, car and also in my earlier days by public transport. Have tried to settle with a small farm, and that would be perfect for me, if it was not for the extreme heat last year and pollution that finally broke my wibe. 

 

We have been travelling most of the time, and will head down south next week again, but to be true I'm tired of constantly having to travel to kill my boredom, or escaping the smoke from burning fields and forests. I do not expect the pollution to change in the near future, that's why I make my move now, and not later when it is maybe too late. 

 

So for the younger ones who dream about Asia, sorry, but it is decades to late. 

Really sad to hear this I too have travelled around Thai and been flooded out and rained on maybe due to the time of year I chose to travel I know it gets bad in the north but the south apart from being hot as hell Kirri khan and Surat Thani don’t seem to have much pollution at the times I was there. Also we have some land in Sakhon Nakhon and have not had some apart from the lady next door early morning sticky rice cooking. The land on the 2346 seems ok with a steady breeze most of the time unusually or the area must be the lake near by. Anyways I am relocating from the UK my time is done here it is not English any more and I can’t speak Urdu my Thai is better just the heat is a killer for me. Heads up and all the best
