Popular Post impulse Posted Sunday at 08:18 AM Popular Post Posted Sunday at 08:18 AM Title says most of it. One of my favorite things about Bangkok (in season). I stopped in and they're set up and the sound people told me starts at 5:30... Well worth a visit. Free. MRT Silom, BTS Sala Daeng. Edit: Bring a folding chair if you have one. They used to have a couple of guys who rent roll up mats. I suspect they still do... 1 2

A symphony concert isn't everyone's cuppa. But I thoroughly enjoyed tonight's. They did some classical and some contemporary and movie stuff. They had a male and a female singer and it was apparent he's a big deal in Thai circles. She had a great voice, and very attractive. They'll be doing it for the next 6 Sundays, same time and place. Then it gets too hot.
georgegeorgia Posted Sunday at 02:35 PM Posted Sunday at 02:35 PM Beautiful post Was it very crowded ? I love sympathy concerts but don't like crowds I used to bring the orange witches hats to put around me at one time Please keep us updated on concerts as I'm heading to BKK in March

Just like most people take the MRT Chatuchuk exit to go to Chatuchuk market. But that's not the best one.

DonniePeverley Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago I went last Sunday. Was meant to start at 5:30, but started much later. After one play, they started doing long speeches and congratulating officials and photo opps. I walked off.

I'd forgive them for learning lumps and a little gratitude toward the people who make it possible. This week, it started right on time and went swimmingly. I'd concede that the audience participation part was mostly in Thai. But hey, it's Thailand and the MC added enough English that we could keep up with what was happening. And the crowd seemed to enjoy it. I sure did, especially when they got the kids to conduct at the very end. Most of the kids were blonde, and it was hilarious. Quoting the Blues Brothers from 1980. "Whaddaya want for nothing, rubber biscuits?" 1

And a lot of them bring their kids. On an aside, in the past years they seemed to overlook people sipping wine on the lawn, watching the concert. I didn't notice anyone drinking this time, but I didn't really look for it.

I'm glad they aren't allowed to enjoy wine or any alcohol.

There were a lot of concert goers, Thai and foreign, discretely sipping wine from fancy fluted glasses. No buckets of booze, but they seemed to allow wine sipping. It's against Lumphini Park rules, but they looked the other way.

I'm just reporting what I found, as a PSA. You may want to stay away. Others may enjoy sipping wine on a Sunday evening with the family in tow. I don't drink, so it's not a big deal for me. Just to be clear, I'm not advocating an illegal activity (alcohol in a city park). And I'd suggest that anyone wanting to sip wine should keep it under the radar and take your cues from the locals and mostly respectable falangs. Pull it out of the stay-cool bag only when you see others doing the same.

MRT Lumpini station - Google Search But the music venue is centrally located in the park so either entrance works. Just advising that both stations are equally convenient to exit MRT.
