A fire broke out on a lorry carrying a large load of sugarcane near a U-turn on Highway 317 between Sa Kaeo and Chanthaburi. The incident occurred in Ban Wang Nam Fon, Wang Mai Subdistrict, Wang Sombun District, Sa Kaeo Province. Both the truck and its trailer were completely engulfed in flames.

According to reports, the fire erupted late in the morning of January 21. The driver managed to jump out of the vehicle and attempted to extinguish the fire, but strong winds intensified the flames, quickly spreading across both the main truck and its trailer. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported.

The location of the incident was near the U-turn at Ban Wang Nam Fon, on the route heading from Wang Nam Yen District towards the Saha Dairy Cooperative Junction in Wang Sombun District.

Highway police from Sa Kaeo province were dispatched to manage traffic. Vehicles travelling from Wang Nam Yen towards Wang Sombun and Chanthaburi were temporarily diverted to a special contraflow lane. Meanwhile, firefighters from the Wang Mai Subdistrict Administrative Organisation, Wang Sombun Municipality, and Wang Nam Yen Town Municipality deployed multiple fire engines to tackle the blaze.

The fire was brought under control after nearly an hour of efforts, followed by additional time for cleanup operations. Traffic flow resumed once the area was cleared.

Preliminary investigations suggest the fire started when sparks, possibly from nearby sources, landed on the sugarcane. The situation was exacerbated by strong winds, resulting in the rapid spread of the flames. The truck was reportedly on its way to deliver the load to a sugarcane factory when the incident occurred.

Authorities continue to investigate the exact cause of the fire.
