Actually I am resident in Thailand 😄.

Got mixed up with permanent residency.

Either way, I am not eligible to vote.

I don't think a Brit living in Thailand is really equivalent to a Brit living in Scotland, given that Scotland is in Britain.

As a dem, I tend to support this reversal too. It had gone way too far and was out of control. Pandering to the extreme, to accommodate the 1.5%.

  • JK Rowling should be knighted.   A brilliant, intelligent woman.

  • DEI, CRT woke and trans nonsense are not civil rights, it's social engineering which has damaged the country so has to be stopped.

Transgenderism is a mental illness and Ms. Rowling is entitled to her opinion.

I am not resident in Thailand (even though my visa suggests I am).

Trump has more right to vote on Scots independence, being half Scottish and owning two wonderful golf courses and hotels there. JK and other English nobs just put property price too high for the locals.

I wouldn't disagree. He'd vote for you to stay in the UK, by the way. He has said that many times.

Just like Scottish and other expat 'nobs' increase the price of property in the likes of Hua Hin/Pattaya.

Where do you live again?

Did he say that, I didn't know.

Not the same, tourism provides many jobs for locals in Hua Hin. I am Thai btw, so believe I have the right to buy property here, and vote.

Unless she goes the whole hog and had gender reassignment surgery, I think she'd prefer to receive a damehood.

Happy to help.

Just as JK Rowling spends/invests lots of her money in Scotland.

Interesting. But irrelevant to the conversation.

Already answered that.

Why would she need to do that?

Lady is equivalent to Sir. Dame is lesser.

Women can be honored in the UK in an equivalent way to knighthood, but they are not referred to as “knights.” Instead, they are appointed as Dames when receiving a damehood, which is the female equivalent of a knighthood.

What we also should not forget is that many normal people prefer some politics from "the left" and other politics from "the right". Only few people are only left or only right.

Well, that's definitely true for people "from the left".

The others just don't have the IQ.

Irrelevant. Women can be knighted so there would be no need for gender reassignment as suggested by WIll.

Also incorrect. Dame is earned in their own right while Lady is just the result of marrying a Sir, so I think we would both agree that Dame is the greater honour since it is earnt, not a result of marrying someone who earnt it.

Strawman.

I didn't say she should be referred to as a knight.

Women who are knighted are Dames. No need for gender reassignment.

It’s not correct to say that women are “knighted” in the UK. Women are appointed as Dames or receive a damehood, which is the equivalent honor to a knighthood for men.

But, as is often the case, the lower orders get a bit mixed up on this kind of stuff and just say 'knighted' even for women.

Come on, look at Judi Dench compared to Alex Ferguson, no comparison.

Was it you going on about how the left are so easily triggered?.....No...I remember now...it was someone else.

Triggered? Has that got anything to do with women being knighted?

You can't really pick out individuals for comparison.

I mean, Sadiq Khan was knighted for goodness sake.

Or Dame Mary Berry v Sir Kenny Dalglish(who is actually given the title 'King' in Scotland)

Reminds me of an old movie clip.

Meanwhile in Thailand, today marks the first day of the Marriage Equality Act. Gender identities on full display today and bold statement on equal rights and tolerance for the minorities.

I think all the DEI and transgender resistance is much like racism. Many people still believe anyone who is not the same as they are, or as they think people should be, is inferior and must be either changed or segregated. Sad...

Never thought of you as a Trumpet.  Maybe Dems are allowed now to praise Trump for some of his policies.

Or just maybe a rational adult is permitted to agree with something that makes sense regardless of where the idea came from and regardless of what party the politician belongs to. It's more or less how politics were conducted before they became totally uncivilized and completely divided.

In terms of being allowed I don't follow any ideology much less the Democrats. I support policies to make sense, I'm not politically correct and I'm likely one of the most conservative Democrats I know.

Well, DEI isn't "much like" racism. It is the very definition of racism.

It prioritzes candidates for jobs/university places etc. based on race.

Can't get much more racist than that. What next? The front seats on the bus?

Like Liberals, the name "Progressives" and "anti-racists" chose for themselves is the exact opposite of what they are.
