Dear GammaGirl,   Well, I must say, your passion for Reverse Polish Notation is positively thrilling. The way you describe it… faster, more convenient, more accurate. It sounds almost… intox

  • Dear me, a touch of misogyny creeping into the posts of GG.   How about a useful thread, such as candlestick patterns and Black-Scholes equations? RPN is so passe.

  • I went to a University named after the guy who invented Logarithms. I studied Pure Maths and have never heard of Polish Notation.

No doubt, the 128K of RAM is still good, though.

I think I have the extra RAM card and a few other things for it around somewhere

OK.

We used the DEC 10, at that time.  And so, you can pretty-much pinpoint the year.

Mostly for interactive computing.

Yes indeed !   Ours was an early DEC 20  ....think there was a problem fitting a 10 into the prefab and keeping it cool. Problem went away with a 20 and local DEC guys got some sort of ( 2nd had ? deal from Maynard ).

Mostly interactive ? well yes! up to then it was 99% batch punchcard jobs on the 360

Also, terminal connected from my house via telephone modem to DEC 10, located at the school.

Accoustic coupler even !

For MainFrame:  IBM 360

Never took the plunge into 370 land

The 360 even moved when ( some years later ) the whole kit & kaboodle was moved into a real proper building

Those were the days when Science was King, and so was engineering.

Accoustic coupler

Of course.

The sound was music to one's ears, as I recall.

I still use  it but with the Free42 app rather than with an HP calculator.  As a general rule, I wouldn't recommend an RPN calculator to someone who says that they've never used algebra after High School, and that seems to include most farang in Thailand other than the ones praising RPN calculators in this thread.
