UK Population Set to Surge to 72.5 Million by 2032, Driven by Migration

Featured Replies

The UK population is projected to increase significantly over the next decade, reaching 72.5 million by 2032, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS). This marks a rise from 67.6 million in 2022, with migration identified as the primary factor driving the growth.

Net migration is expected to contribute nearly five million people to the population between 2022 and 2032. The ONS noted that the natural change, which reflects the balance between births and deaths, is projected to be around zero during this period. “The UK population is projected to grow by almost five million over the next decade. The driver of this growth is migration,” said James Robards, head of population and household projections at the ONS.

In addition to population growth, the data highlights the UK’s status as an ageing society. By 2047, the number of individuals aged over 85 is projected to nearly double, reaching 3.3 million. Robards explained this trend as a consequence of the ageing baby boomer generation and ongoing improvements in life expectancy. By mid-2032, 10.3 percent of the UK population is expected to be aged 75 or older, compared to 9.1 percent in mid-2022.

Net migration, defined as the difference between people entering and leaving the UK, is projected to average 340,000 per year starting from mid-2028. This represents a decline from current levels, as net migration for the year ending June 2024 is estimated at 728,000. Nevertheless, migration will remain a key contributor to the UK’s population increase.

The population is expected to surpass the 70 million mark by 2026. For historical context, the UK population was approximately 40 million in 1898, reached 50 million by 1948, and crossed 60 million in 2005.

The ONS also reported that the overall population of the UK is projected to grow by 7.3 percent between mid-2022 and mid-2032. This represents an increase compared to the 6.1 percent population growth recorded in the previous decade.

As the country approaches these significant demographic milestones, migration and ageing will continue to shape the UK’s societal and economic landscape in profound ways.

That number is probably true right now.

Well, this thread is going to trigger the old racist types.

And ironically many of the ones that who themselves decided to move and live in Thailand.
Funny that.

So you don't figure that conditions worsening in the UK is why they chose to emigrate, not just to Thailand?  And more will leave in the future?  And probably not the ones that the UK can afford to lose...  Like California.  Losing the ones that can afford to leave.  I think they call that swirling down the bowl.

Being alarmed by the steady influx of illegal immigrants has zero to do with racism. It is about the financial burden they represent to the tax payers and the additional strain they put on social services.

In contrast, the expats retiring here are legally required to demonstrate financial independence and have not bypassed any visa requirements by turning up on Thailands beaches in rubber dingys.

People who throw the racist word around in a demonstration of virtue signaling are often racists themselves since they wish to see every problem only in terms of race regardless of all other considerations.

The major reasons Britons give for moving abroad have nothing to do with immigration.

UK’s Potential Exodus: Over Half (52%) Of Brits Eye A Better Life Abroad

Over half of Brits (52%) have considered leaving the UK for better working opportunities abroad, according to new research from Gen Z insights company Prograd.

This sentiment was particularly strong for those working in healthcare (54%), educational professionals (52%), lawyers (69%) and financial services professionals (62%), many of which make up the UK’s key workers...

When asked about what they think the biggest financial barrier for young people in the UK is, 83% said the cost of living, 64% said housing affordability, 58% said low salaries and 41% said high taxes.

Yet every condition then mentioned is either directly caused or greatly exacerbated by immigration.

Of course people taking a survey aren't going to call out immigration specifically.  They'd be risking accusations of racism.

Most of which is at least partly due to excessive immigration.

Salaries are driven down due to an over supply of cheap labour. Housing/Rental prices are driven up by a lack of available housing due to more people needing them. Higher taxes to pay for the additional strain on the NHS, schools, public services etc.

There really is little to no benefit of mass immigration to the average working Britain. Plenty of downsides, but pretty much no upside.

Do you have actual data to support this claim?

Well I can only speak for myself and it wasn’t the well behaved migrant women that scared me off England.

It was the beefy, entitled, opinionated, aggressive native women that scared me off and the opportunity in Thailand for something a hell of a lot better.

And the nice weather.

And all the foreigners. A very interesting mix down here in beautiful Phuket.

Perhaps we should direct some of that cheap labour into building more houses to increase supply?

Reported this week one in 12 Londoners are illegal immigrants- 600k, and the rest. I don't think they know the actual number of people now in the UK but it's likely they would not tell us if they did. Utility companies have estimated it's more like 80 million already. Go to any A&E departments and have a look at the numbers and ethnicities packing the hospital out.

Yes because I am sure they are all highly skilled tradesmen.  😆

Jokes aside, it's impossible to build enough houses for 5 million people in 7 years.

Where's the land for these houses coming from? The land purchased from farmers I guess following the inheritance tax raid that forced them to sell up.

Swathes of farming land/countryside turned into housing estates for immigrants. Presumably these concrete jungles will all have hospitals, roads, schools there already?

If your bath was overflowing with water, would you start trying to make it bigger or would you turn off the tap?

Can you give examples where the ECHR made such rulings or are you mistaking rulings by UK courts?

Next time you go to A&E take a look at the ethnicity of the doctors, nurses, health professionals and auxiliary staff.

Do you advise doing that in the first 12 hours you are waiting to be seen?

Or the second 12 hours?

The UK economy and British citizens relying on state pensions and public services need immigration.

The UK has really good deal that gave the nation access to young educated and skilled workers, many of who came to the Uk for short term work, I wonder what happened to that and what was it replaced with?

“The ONS found that the fertility rate across England and Wales fell to 1.49 children per woman in 2022, down from 1.55 in 2021. To maintain a population, its “replacement rate” needs to be at least 2.1 children per woman, according to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).”

Exactly, and the translators and foreign security, all part of the same problem that mass and illegal immigration has created, almost a million a year still pouring in.

But But But.

The DIVERSITY.

I can just imagine entering the 20th hour of sitting there with a broken pelvis waiting to be seen and thinking to myself "I know the pain is unbearable, but look at how diverse this all is, isn't it simply MARVELLOUS. Aren't WE marvellous". 😆

You’ve got a wild imagination Jonny.

How about waiting with your broken pelvis and refusing treatment or assistance from any doctor, nurse health professional who isn’t ‘native British born and bred’?

That would show ‘em!

Young people in the UK can't afford to start a family. They can barely afford somewhere to live, assuming there is a house available to rent that hasn't been used by the state to house immigrants.

How about not waiting at all because the waiting room isn't full of immigrants (and their translators) who never paid into the system in the first place?

21 out of 22 of the nationalities on this planet with the highest population growths are Muslim. Does anyone see a critical issue with that?

There's another one of those cherries. Perhaps it's the dire conditions brough on by unvetted immigration that's causing the low birthrate?

Happy people who are confident of the future are more likely to have more kids.  Immigrants that just came from a 3rd world craphole are very confident of their future in the UK. It's much better than where they just were.

Native Brits that see depressed wages, housing shortages and more crime aren't all that confident.  So fewer kids.

Only if you let millions of them flood into your country, often undocumented and then allow them to set up their own Sharia courts and attempt to understate their sexual crimes against indigenous children.

Imagine if that happened. Oh, wait a minute...
