How many border runs?

If you come to Thailand without a visa, so you will get 60 days free stamp at the airport, how many border runs could you do after that?

 

Maybe it would be better to come with a tourist e-visa and prior the expiration of the 30 days extension from the 60 days tourist visa you can start to do a few border runs. It makes more sense to be honest. Even if it is a bit pointless to come with a tourist visa as you can get 60 days for free but coming with a valid visa is always stronger than coming without a visa and you could do more border runs

Are you asking a question or outlining a strategy.

Unless there is extensive history in Thailand with visa exempt ongoing then best to enter via air visa exempt.

Currently there is no stated limit to border bounces however without an agent the border crossings are now demanding certain things.

Such as 1-2 night stay.

Air ticket out of the within 60.

Some proof of accommodation.

 

Even the very friendly (previously) Nong Khai are now requesting a 1-2 night stay.

 

If someone is in home country they could consider METV eVisa.

DTV also an option

I am in my country but i am planning to come back to thailand. I could apply for a METV e-visa but honestly i am not sure about paying tax if i might stay longer than 6 months, so maybe i could just apply for a single entry tourist e-visa and stay in thailand less than 6 months. I am just a bit confused about this tax story over there

You are overly concerned about  tax.

Don't see the point of a SETV unless you have not spent any time out of Thailand. 

You can enter visa exempt via air and do some border bounces with minivan company.

Just check under bed each night for tax man.

Just keep in mind ..border bounces very easy from some locations.

Perhaps easy one for example is Pattaya 

On other hand places such as islands not so easy.

yes, i already know some border runs company. 1 or 2 border bounces are good enough for me. Thank you for letting me know

After 24 years on a NonB I have been on 60 day stamps since May 2024.

I just got back for my 8th time, and although the IO was a bit quiet and slow, I showed her a flight out and she stamped me in for 60 more days. I don't expect this to go on, and I plan to get a proper visa in a month or two.

Each time I leave, I go out for several days (sometimes more than a week), always by plane and to a variety of countries (Japan, Indonesia, Vietnam, Maldives and Taiwan).

as far as taxes go if you spend 180 days or more in Thailand, in a calendar you are considered a tax resident

what is the confusion about?  from all the different weinars of tax agents as well as TRD officials, I do believe the current tax situaion has been way overdone based on the repititions of so much data.  If you haven't figured it out yet, just google the Thailand Revenue Dept website  in English and read for yourself, then you can make your own guess.  htpps://www.rd.go.th/english

How do you get a tax Tin number if you do not have qualified visa?

that should depend on whether or not you have assessable income.  Many users here have visited local trd offices for a tax id but learn that they don't actually have assessble income and the office doesn't issue a tax id as not tax forms are needed to be filed.

I did a one night stay in Cambodia. I was still well within the 60 days of my visa exempt entry so no need to have done a border run. I still got the third degree by Thai Immigration when re-entering Thailand.

Pretty unusual to do border bounce when "well within the 60 days....

Any particular reason.

Poi Pet. It wasn't a border bounce however I was going to have to get an extension or do a border bounce at some point. I still had 15 days to run on the 60 day entry. Back ground. Cambodia is the only SE Asia country that I have never been to. I was staying in Rangsit near the Rangsit Nakhon Nayok road and went with the gf for a day trip to Nakhom Nayok. She is a licenced tourist guide and when work is short she goes to work escorting day tripping Thais to go to gamble. She organises their visas.

When we were at Nakhon Nayok she was saying this was the way to Cambodia and suggested we went another day. Hence the over night trip a few days later. Just to knock Cambodia off my to do list.

Yes I realise that now based on another thread. Only really went there as it was close and the gf goes there often so wanted to show me. Like I said, been to Thailand, Loas, Burma as it was then, Viet Nam (North and South), Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore. But Never Cambodia.

Hi all, I asked a similar question recently. On 5 Feb I crossed into Laos from Nong Kai and I am in Vientiane now. When I was getting stamped out on the Thai side, the IO told me to go and see his colleague in a little office, and the IO in the office was nice enough and stamped me out but asked how long I was gonna stay in Laos, and I said 2 or 3 days, and he he nodded and then said, if I go back to Thailand, not do so from the border but fly in instead. I wish I had asked him how many days I should stay out but I didn't think at the time. Now, I'm not sure whether to go back tomorrow or hang on here a while to make it look like a real tourist stay or what. I will update this when I attempt re-entry so we have a bit more clarity, if that is ever possible with Thai immigration rules.

don't overthink the tax angle, get the visa/visa exempt option that's good for your plans

Staying out of Thailand for 2 nights should be sufficient.

Here is very recent thread of Nong Khai border bounce (not pleasant) 

Be aware they may even ask to see flight out of Thailand within 60 days and some details of accommodation in Thailand.

Don't fly back to Thailand.

If the flight thing is insisted on consider rent a ticket.

I live in BKK but I wouldn't mind flying into Udon Thani or something and staying a night or two  there and carrying on to BKK, I wonder if Udon IOs are any more chilled than their BKK counterparts

Give the border entry a go.

Be polite. Remain calm. Have simple outline of plans. 

Have cash on you. 

 

Forget flight to Udon Thani.

By all means check it out if you wish and then you could fly Udon to DMK after couple of nights.

I think the only difference is that I was taken to an office on the Thai - before I even entered Laos - and told not to come back again through the land border at NK. This is why I am worried about crossing back and thinking of the airport instead but that could end badly if I ger denied entry there. Anyway, thanks for you input
