Uzbek tourist robbed at Patong Beach, thieves arrested

A gang of thieves who stole an Uzbek tourist’s bag at Patong Beach in the early hours of this morning didn’t get far, as police tracked them down and arrested them within just over an hour.

 

The victim, 21 year old Xhayrdonion Zafarugu Khanotion, reported the theft to Patong Police at 3am today, February 5, stating that his waist bag, containing his phone, passport, credit cards, motorcycle keys, and US$1,000 (around 33,000 baht) in cash, had vanished while he sat nearby.

 

A swift investigation, led by Police Lieutenant Colonel Sinchai Sukkhi, led officers to a 7-Eleven on Ratchapathanusorn Road, where the suspects were caught red-handed.

 

The three arrested were identified as 24 year old Anlus Chankaew from Krabi, 23 year old Anuwat Damrongrat from Phuket; and Aung, a 21 year old Myanmar national.

 

 

Police recovered an iPhone 16 Pro Max, an iPhone 14 Pro, multiple credit cards, a black shoulder bag, and a red Honda PCX motorcycle belonging to the victim.

 

During questioning, the trio admitted to stealing the bag at 4.20am, using a vehicle to make a quick getaway, reported The Phuket News.

 

They were charged with jointly stealing property at night using a vehicle to facilitate the crime or evade arrest, according to Patong Police.

 

Police reminded tourists to stay vigilant, particularly in crowded or public areas, and to keep their belongings secure.

Perfectly normal things to take on a 3 am stroll along the beach. I guess next time he will sit nearer to his stuff.
