Heads up people thinking of getting their DTV extension in Bangkok out at Chaengwattana Section J

Some people are now reporting that they are getting a 2 week "under consideration" stamp and then have to show up that date to get the extension inked in

I do not know if this is dependent on category you have your DTV for or what, BUT it is definitely happening

Here's a stamp from Wednesday the 5th

If any more reasons were required, this is absolutely the nail in the coffin not to do a DTV permission-to-stay extension. Leave the country twice per year is obviously the route to take. You will need to leave once a year anyway because, as I understand it, you can only do one extension per entry.

Why would anybody put themselves through these administrative hoops and take the chance of being forced to leave the country at very short notice with a negative stamp in the passport?

Hear Hear. Exactly the case.

Thinking most DTV folk could schedule in a mini break from Thailand.

Doesn't need to be a bounce

I just assumed that group had factored in the option of trip to obtain "new " 6 months.

Have CW issued a list of requirements/documents/photos needed to extend the DTV in country?

Thinking  those that obtained first category "online work" can provide some docs etc.

Some of soft power options was never clear what's required ongoing

I mean a root canal (sarcasm) is not an ongoing process.

I deleted my post when I found this thread...

In the link you supplied there for soft power options it states (#3) one of the requirements...."evidence of activity"

So what's that mean

I agree, but I think immigration's take on the DTV that shines through here will ultimately also make it harder (or more expensive) to make hassle-free short trips out and back.

That's not just speculation at this point. I take note that a popular Bangkok-based border bounce company is already charging DTV holders a premium for a one-day border bounce to Cambodia.

Quite possibly. Very mixed messages on that one at the moment but it is still early days. The early birds have only had their DTV's for just over 7 months.

On the one hand, the DTV appeared on a video issued by Immigration. The video warned foreigners not to use visa exempts or tourist visas but to get a proper visa and then provided examples of a Non-Immigrant Visa and a DTV. So, the official Immigration video references the DTV as a proper visa.

On the other hand, we know that denials of entry seem to appear when Immigration feel a situation is threatening their agent-derived income.

At the moment there are no reliable reports of denial of entry.

I am almost sure they will start to crack down on DTV holders on the soft power activities. Sooner rather than later. That is probably why there already is a service available (5700 baht) for a new 180 day entry.

Agree. Various statements referring to "proof of activity" ......does this mean for example enrollment in language classes or Muay Thai etc ongoing?

I most certainly have and over the moon with a DTV.

No border bounce or extension request from myself.

I'll be over to Vietnam or Cambodia for a week every six months.

Silliness in my view to risk getting involved in immigration bureaucracy.

It's a great visa, use it properly, Thailand will still be here after a few days abroad every six months.

I definitely think it's a response to in country extensions as opposed to category of DTV.

Out of interest can you share what category you opted for AND if one of the soft power options what sort of participation, Proof of course etc was required.

I can, of course.

Right, I went for the medical soft power option.

I have a few medical issues, and although I am privately insured, it doesn't cover some of my issues, so I pay cash.

I am booked for a colonoscopy, and also I booked my yearly medical.

Also, due to the fact I have a laryngotomy, I get my prosthesis supplied by the UK, but changed in Thailand regularly in Khonkaen.

I still am a UK taxpayer and they allow this.

I obtained my visa in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Furthermore, I supplied all necessary financial and it took 2/3 weeks.

I could be missing something here, but why would anyone pay a border bounce company for this?  DTV is a multiple entry visa, perfectly legitimate to go to Cambodia for a week then come back. The IO should give you a new 180 day stamp on the way back in. Why do you need an agency to arrange this? I totally get that corrupt IO's can make up a reason to not let you in, as has been reported with people who have a lot of visa exemption stamps in their passport, is this the concern here? Will hiring a border bounce company ensure that you get through? But then, if this is the case then everyone should hire a border bounce company every time regardless of their visa, because the bottom line is that IO can refuse you entry if they want to. I get you would hire a company if your passport is particularly full of stamps and is looking a bit dodgy but the DTV is so new it's not possible to have that many stamps in your passport yet. In my case, I have a DTV which has never used a re-entry, I have a couple of visa exemptions and a tourist visa going back 2 years or so in my passport. It's not like my passport is bursting with entry stamps. Surely I can just go to Cambodia and come back again? IO would not have any good reason to refuse me? (of course they still can if they want to). Seems like in my situation, hiring an expensive border bounce company would be overkill. Can't you hire the company after you have been denied entry? I'm sure I've heard of that happening in Bangkok airport. This whole thing is a minefield. I've got a few months yet before I have to renew it. I'll keep my ear to the ground in the meantime but it seems to me the best way is don't worry about it too much and just have a week holiday in Cambodia near the time. You might get unlucky and get a bad IO, but this is the case in any border entry situation. I guess use a border bounce company for peace of mind if you can afford it.

Long post about not much.

Those with DTV can do an exit reenter via air most likely Without issue.

Thinking most of those folk will make it a mini holiday. Perhaps Saigon one example.

Those who for whatever reason want border bounce will be best advised to used agent border run company.
