An elderly man was tragically killed after a speeding pickup truck belonging to a department store collided with his motorcycle on a main road in Nakhon Si Thammarat. The victim was thrown onto the road and died instantly.

Police were alerted to the fatal crash on Therd Phra Kiat Road in Pak Nakhon, Mueang District, on the afternoon of 8 February. Investigators from Mueang Police Station, along with medics from Maharaj Nakhon Si Thammarat Hospital and rescue workers from the Pracha Ruam Jai Foundation, rushed to the scene.

They found the lifeless body of an unidentified man, estimated to be around 55–60 years old, lying in the middle of the road. Nearby, a heavily damaged green motorcycle without a number plate was discovered approximately 30 metres from the point of impact.

A white Toyota pickup truck, registered in Surat Thani, was found at the scene with damage to its front right side.

According to initial police inquiries, the victim had been riding his motorcycle out of a side street opposite a local market when the high-speed pickup truck struck him. The force of the collision sent the motorcycle flying more than 30 metres, and the rider was thrown onto the road, dying instantly.

The pickup driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police. He claimed that the motorcycle suddenly emerged from the side street into his path, giving him no time to brake before the fatal impact.

Authorities are now gathering further evidence and witness statements as part of their investigation into the incident.

Unfortunately, this little manoeuvrer occurs daily here.

Even at slower speeds, it is almost impossible to avoid an accident.

It is not just the bikes - vans, cars, whatever have all started doing it.

Many people have no patience these days.
