Hi,

We have to get a Thai PP for our son (Thai) here in BKK and I know about the documents required.

Since I won't be able to go with my wife and son to the PP office they will need a 'letter of consent' from me, presumably in Thai.

Does anybody have a sample letter or a downloadable form for this purpose? I'm never sure what the gov guys want to see in letters of this type and they can be quite picky if the wording is not exactly as they need it to be.

She can go and apply for the passport and fill out the paperwork. I gave her the consent letter in English, BUT you both have to sign to get the passport. My wife flew to BKK and did the papers and signed & I went some moths later, with the reference number and signed too. After giving them copies of this and that they handed me the passport. Good luck

Just got my youngest daughter's passport renewed (we fly to London next week - wife's already there with the other two - and we're all coming back just before the school restarts).

We didn't realise it needed both of us to sign for a renewal, so I went on my own, and found out it did...

My wife had to go the embassy in London (had to be the embassy - needs the official stamps - maybe a consulate would do - not 100%), and fill in a form in Thai that the embassy provided. That, along with similarly stamped copies of her passport then had to be sent to me (courier - fax or email won't work), so that I could take it along to the passport office.

I think you could probably go to the passport office yourself and fill in the form there maybe (beforehand) if you're in Thailand. Otherwise, it's a trip to the embassy where you are...

Believe me - if there's any way at all you can all make it to the passport office together - it's a lot less hassle.

One final thing - if you're living abroad, you don't need to apply for the passport in Thailand. - You can apply for a passport at the Thai embassy in the country where you're living. I think it takes longer to be issued, but may be easier in the circumstances.

(Ignore this - just noticed that you're in Bangkok - in which case - DEFINITELY go with them to the passport office...)

Thanks for all your input.

Will certainly have to make a day free to go with family to PP office.

It was just a matter of scheduling problems.
