Roaming dog pack

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

My wife is totally devastated, we buried our cat yesterday, he was killed by a pack of dogs from the factory 100 metres away,(the other side of a rubber tree & palm oil area), no fencing and the dogs just roam where they want to. To say I was incensed would be an under statement, I wanted to kill all of the dogs involved, the fact Thailand has no laws about these dog packs roaming free sucks big time plus the fact thais dont care what they do  is pathetic. I have 4 dogs and they stay in our yard(1 rai) unless they are on theirn leash but too many thais just let their dogs run free because they dont want to have to clean up after them or in many cases feed them, one of our dogs was a puppy from the factory that wandered over to our house a few years ago, she is that friendly it isnt funny and used to play with the cat, they would even sleep together. Unfortunatey the majority of thais dont have any regard for pets/animals, they dont feed them regularly, dont bath them or take care of them, they just let them wander and do as they please, the anger I feel at what these dogs have done due to how the factory owners lack of responsibility is immense, I have never seen my wife so upset and I am fighting the urge to remove the dogs permanently.

I realize this is just a rant but the devastation my sife is suffering is making it very hard for me to think rationally.

sad story...

even sadder  when it is some little kid or grandma that gets attacked...happens often in thailand, usa and many other countries especially when dangerous breeds are tied up but seem to manage to break free and maul people because owner is a total dick with a brain the size of a grain of rice and no regard for human life.

seems to be little or no repercussions to owners so they do not care.

Every time I bring a cat to my house it is killed, either by dogs or disturbed locals who poison them. You and I both love animals, so we aren't going to hurt another even though the dogs killed our cats, because it isn't in us, even though I'm a hunter.

Domestic animals can go wild when people let them loose after they are kittens and puppies, and they have to fend for themselves and eat. An animal that is raised around other animals of different species usually will not hurt them, as they only know love and play, especially if it comes from their owners. In this country,

Little is done on a grand scale, meaning spay and neuter, which should be funded by the government but usually comes from donations, and with the amount of animals born ere, it's hard for them to keep up if not impossible.

In a developing country, many things are adopted. To make money, provide entertainment and to help others.and then that provide entertainment. Some things have priority over others. Look at how children are cared for, with students riding on the tops of buses, to how they are taught in most schools, to how they are left with grandparents to be raised, to how they are allowed to drive scooters starting at age 8. The level of care here pales by comparison to the west. It will eventually get better when old school thinking is driven out and things are adopted that help others instead of scamming them for profit. This means enforcement of laws and extreme punishment for those who intentionally hurt others and use them for profit, such as human trafficking.

The only thing you can do here to protect your pets is keep them inside, and allowing them to go out only to do their business and play with you monitoring it, then bringing them back inside. Roaming dogs will continue here for decades to come, as well as the deaths daily on roads.

The practice I'm our Mubaan is a dog must have an owner.... Ostensibly to have someone to take responsibility....

If they don't, the dog killers can & will be called out if the dogs do/cause harm/menace to people or property....You might want to contact the village head & demand the dogs' removal.... Possibly sue the owners, if any......

In the Thai view, whoever feeds them, owns them.....

even worse, we read regularly on this forum, news items where pet dogs suddenly attack their owner and sometime fatally.  Certain breeds IMHO as a dog owner for over 70 years, should be ourlawed as they were originally bred as fighting dogs.  I realize too that some people have these same breeds the entire life of the dog and only good stories to tell of them but it seems that at least in Thailand pitbull partials or pure breeds can turn vicious without warning.  Soi dogs should be sterilized by the govt and all pet owners should be required to register their dogs with a chip and then stray dog owners can be discovered through the chip if the dog was abandoned and then the owner fined for abandoning the dog.

It happens anywhere the dog isn't properly trained with love and respect. here, after puppies and kittens grow into cats and dogs, they're largely forgotten and looked at as pests, by the same people who think they're cute when young. A pet is supposed to be for life, not until inconvenient.

yes, sad but after 30+ years here, IMHO that is too true!

I can sympathise with you entirely. My cat was attacked by four dogs a week ago, and they would have killed her if I had been seconds slower in getting to her. They bit her half a dozen times, but not deeply. It was a narrow escape, but she was so terrified that she didn't eat for four days and hardly moved. Thailand is the home of the irresponsible dog owner, and in my case I think that these four dogs belong to farang who lives nearby, or they are strays that he feeds. I am very sorry indeed for your poor wife.

Thai dog owners let there dogs out to <deleted> outside so thy don't have to clean it.

2 dogs started <deleted>ting outside our house because the owners shouted at them when they <deleted> inside.

I started to brush the <deleted> over to their door.

They would then shout who the <deleted> threw <deleted> here.

That worked for a bit but then started again and I would get the harder <deleted> on the end of a stick and launch it over their gate (when they were out)

I got really good at it to a point I started enjoying it.

It's all started again now as they have got a new puppy.

Had enough of dog owners and we are now moving so no neighbours

<deleted> stick game is about to finish

Well now in BKK if one has a pet dog, it must be registered and chipped.  Started within the past year.  I live in Prawet district and within a month of the announcement about the registrations of dogs (within the next year I think) there was an advisory by the govt of a rabies infected wild cat I think in this area and advised any pet owners that allowed their pets to roam outside should be aware of the rabies outbreak.

Yes, I do....I rescued a dog that a team of 3 men were sent to dispatch....The dog luckily took refuge under my car as they and a policeman were trying to capture.....

I picked up the dog & refused their demands for it as curious neighbors watched.....

It was a direct confrontation & they were not sure what to do....They backed down & left....

I found a neighbor that would take him in and. "Jack" now had an owner.....

His crime? He bit a boy in a bicycle.....The back story is 4-6 boys just got bicycles and would chase down the dogs & run them down with their front wheels while the dogs were trying to escape = the dog bit in self defense....

Jack is the kind of dog that rolled over for belly rubs every time he'd great someone he trusted....

My Bankeau is also a street rescue..... Somebody knife slashed his rear leg about 11" worth, taking many stitches.....

It was told to me that the killers get a dog - tape his mouth shut and their legs together & toss them in a garbage truck.....They claim whatever the bounty is.....

These guys had netting & were intent on taking Jack....

They obviously were not used to having a Farang stand up to them.....

Jack & Rusty are happy domestic dogs now....

Save your toxicity for someone else....

While sympathising with the OP on his loss, and we have a similar dog problem, we also have a problem with the neighbours cats roaming free. We feed the small native birds and squirrels and encourage the native lizards (not jing jok or tookay) that eat the insects in the fruit trees. We are daily chasing the cats lying in wait for the birds, squirrels and lizards, so they are a bigger problem than the dogs and their sh#t.

So I hope the OP keeps his cat(s) secured in his own yard so they do not eat the local wildlife creatures in the neighbourhood.

I agree with GreasyFingers. Although I wrote that my cat was attacked by dogs, the cat in fact was an animal that was abandoned, like so many others, during Covid. She arrived at our door in a terrible condition and my wife took her in. I never wanted a cat because I am aware of the damage that they cause, and I see that in Scotland the government is considering allowing people to own cats only if the animals spend their lives indoors. Cats are cute but very destructive.

cat was de sexed and stayed mainly inside or in our yard, the only thing I have ever seen it kill was gecko's, the open area with all the rubber & palm oil trees has rodents and snakes with fish in the open gutter, never seen birds on the ground plus the cat had a bell on its collar so tinkled when it walked meaning birds would have heard it, made sure he wasnt a danger to them.

Yeah, other people's cats have killed 2 of my rabbits in the past.

Why do cat owners think their cats have the right to enter other peoples property and kill their pets?

Dogs are easily controlled with a garden fence.

Cats aren't as easy to keep confined unless you fix them asap. They, meaning the males, are roamers and will go far and wide looking for females, even staying away for days. I don't think the people actually realize just how many animals cats kill. It's pretty impressive seeing cats are very small animals, and they also kill just for fun. They take a toll on all types of wildlife from mice, rats, birds, lizards, rabbits and insects. I had one who killed 2 rabbits in a week and only ate the head half of one, leaving the rest for us to see.

The bell is the best thing to do if it is loud enough but the cats here lie in wait for the birds and squirrels so even if they had a bell the birds would not hear them until too late.

We all know you hate dogs to some degree but it's a very sick person that intentionally kills them.  I myself have lost many animals in this country to someone who's poisoning them. The police do nothing so it might come to me teaching them a hard lesson when I catch them..............

"The Humane Society of the United States says on its website that a number of studies "in psychology, sociology, and criminology during the last 25 years have demonstrated that violent offenders frequently have childhood and adolescent histories of serious and repeated animal cruelty.

"The FBI has recognized the connection since the 1970s, when its analysis of the lives of serial killers suggested that most had killed or tortured animals as children," according to the society. "Other research has shown consistent patterns of animal cruelty among perpetrators of more common forms of violence, including child abuse, spouse abuse, and elder abuse. In fact, the American Psychiatric Association considers animal cruelty one of the diagnostic criteria of conduct disorder...

An American website called Pet-Abuse.com lists a number of examples of criminals who have hurt or poisoned animals before later in life killing humans, including one young man in Missouri who killed a classmate and admitted he lost count of how many cats he had killed.

"The line separating an animal abuser from someone capable of committing human abuse is much finer than most people care to consider," states the website............."He must have some deep-rooted serious issues to be doing this, to be such a coward to leave something like antifreeze, which is actually sweet to the taste, which is what attracts animals to it," Smith said.
