Thailand will wish they had this problem in the future, when it will no longer be considered a cool destination for young people. Thailand will be recognized as a major polluter and contributor to the climate change narrative with the rest of Asia

The majority of tourists come to Thailand to party.  They can easily go somewhere else.

As with many things in life - it's a trade off.

They want tourism money, well that brings all sorts of issues.

Anywhere that becomes extremely popular is doomed to go down the road of 'Benidorm' in Spain.

Some could be doomed but if done properly, the tourist issues could just be a phase of 5 phases.  First, it's the younger rowdy crowd tourists.   They drink, they pollute, they mess things up and go.  Second, the trickling in of businesses and accommodations to cater to the tourists.  Third, the catering of accommodations to more moneyed individuals, this means the modern skyscraper resorts.  Fourth ...the arrival of the clientele of these skyscrapers -- the moneyed individuals in for the long-term.  They are older/more mature, less noisy, does not pollute.   Fifth and final stage, with time, the settlement of the area into an uplifted livelihood and gentrified surrounding.

I think it's important to see foreigners in Thailand from 2 perspectives each with 2 slices.

First, there is young tourist folks.   Second, are old settler folks.   And then you have the slices of good and bad in both.

Very much agree with this comment.   I'm appalled at some of the posters here.   A good example is Yagoda having the nerve to say something like "I'm American I look down upon others."    As an American myself, that is not how we operate.  In fact, the more privileged a person  is, the more humble should one be.

I'm very humble, I don't need to express my superiority at every turn . But I'm not going to hide it.. You don't like freedom of speech evidently. And if you're an American that thinks someone in the Congo is as lucky as you then I feel sorry for you.

So maybe it's just poor working on your part when you said "rightfully I look down on others".   I am fairly new to the boards so I have not much history of posters here.  Sounds like you meant to say we're just luckier, which is not really looking down on people.  Looking down on comes with  impositions of superiority which is bad.  I think we're okay.

Legalising weed has made Thailand the go-to place for the 18-30 crowd, mostly males. Sadly places like MHS are quickly becoming the new Magaluf.

I'm trying to comfort myself with those famous words....This too shall pass

none of this is new, the only thing new is the attention it receives nationally because there is always some <deleted> around with a camera pandering to the masses on social media for likes.

Racism aside, Israelis, Germans, Russians, Brits and many others have all have had their day in the sun as Thailand's most hated international flavour.

Yes, I am. Means that I am not following the trend, to look down on Thai that seems to be the par on this forum.

it is not looking down on Thais to point out their habit of littering. There is a soi not far from where I am where flytippers come. Disgusting. people toss their garbage on the beach here and so on.

Increase the requirements for visas, screen all Chinese and Russians, and stop the utter desperation for ever higher tourists arrival numbers.

Problem solved.

There really isn't a problem with the Chinese. For the most part, I believe that they they have one of the lowest per visitor problem rates for Thailand. How many Chinese do we see or read about getting into fights  or shoplifting or murdering people? Have there been any Chinese  suicides in the numbers we see with  westerners?

For those of us who have been around for some years, the claims of crackdown is a tired empty response. It's like traffic law enforcement.  On for a few days and then when the coppers get tired of doing a proper job, they revert to their lazy uninterested ways.

Where? Be real.  The world has changed. Miami Beach it was once the party  destination for young people. No more. The city bans the sale of alcohol from corner stores after 10 PM. It increased beach parking rates  to discourage some visitors. The Canary Islands and the sun destinations of Spain all have locals harassing tourists and protesting their presence. Venice wants tourists gone. Amsterdam, once the destination for potheads and ravers is implementing visitor capacity restrictions. It wants fewer tourists. And so on.

Let's be real, Vietnam and Cambodia have cultures very different from Thailand. As bad as Thailand is, they are worse. The Philippines is a basket case. No partying in Malaysia and Indonesia comes with its own set of dysfunction and perils. Singapore is wonderful, but most can neither afford it, nor are they prepared for the draconian laws.

I don't know about that. Whenever I walk by a cannabis shop, the only  people I see visiting are 50 + year olds farangs. The Under 30 year olds  who smoke cannabis are not coming to Thailand because it is legal. They were smoking  cannabis in Thailand long before it was.  They are just more visible. Thailand is not as affordable as it  was 10 years ago, or even 5 years ago. As a result, the under 30 year olds are not staying very long.

So, you have to remove alcohol to take care of the problem? Are for real! We are talking about adults, that are supposed to have a brain. Just because something is available, does not mean anybody encourage anybody to do anything.

we are talking about young people, whose brains do not mature until, in most cases, around 25 yo... You might have taken longer, who are encouraged to come to these parties/festivals and drink and use drugs, what thinking brain can't see there will be problems.... Oh, wait, you can't.

Sorry, I will no longer entertain you on this issue, you obviously have no idea on human behaviour. Have a nice day.

They want our money, but they don't want us.

As for respecting the environment, I'll bet we leave less litter than a crowd of Thais.

I have to go along with that.

But it's not the lady or man in the street with these policies, it's the elites running government.

No, I learned to take care of myself since 16 years of age. Moved out of home, took a student loan for the rest of school. Worked and I actually became a young and responsible man already at the age of 17-18 years of age. So, yes, I know a lot of human behavior. I have seen the ones who never grow up as well. However, my stance and the society´s stance in most countries in the world, is that you are a grown up and should be able to control yourself, respect people and make adult decisions at the age between 18-20. As that is the come of age level in most of the world.

After that, I don´t know if you get horny out of placing some insults between your sentences.

It is evenly biased against anything anti trump as it has a chip on each shoulder!

PS; It probably also has chips planted in what is left of it's brain and in it's Butt and Mouth area!

PPS;  There will be a usual Yap yap yap response from it which is best just ignored!

That was a rather detailed description. I liked it. 🙂

Remember, It was you posting that I had not even been visiting. Lastly, what you think about my comment, and how much weight you decide they have???? Let´s say like this: Can´t care less.

being naked is only allowed for Thais.... look around what some people wear on the streets.. It seems they are on the beach.. so called being sexy, but they don't know the difference between sexy and looking for money.. But as a foreigner take out his shirt it is a shame. Thais swim with their clothes on.. foreigners take them off.. I would know how the would respond if there were beaches for nudists here

A foreigner without a shirt entering a shop or bar, showing fat bellies or stupid tattoos, is a disgrace. No culture, no manners, no education. No class. 😨

I have mentioned this many times.

Who likes and enjoy...

1. A sweaty, bare bodied passenger on a public transport?

2. A crowd of loud mouthed passengers talking very loudly and cackling stupidly?

3. Recently I saw a foreign couple on a public transport boat, where the female was resting her feet on the seat in front of her.

4. Large bodied foreigners, both males and females walking arrogantly along the streets as if they are the owners - don't bother to move aside to let others pass - prefers to knock against the oncoming person/s.

5. Eating/drinking on the sky-trains, even with the notices.

Just a few observations, I see often on the streets of Thailand.
