Aid groups say the bill does not provide enough money to fight HIV (news - web sites)/AIDS around the world. The Global AIDS Fund is set to receive $400 million, double Bush's request but far less than the fund was hoping for. The bill provides total funding of $2.2 billion to fight AIDS, a $593 million increase over 2004.

"HIV/AIDS is the worst infectious disease in history, and we need to invest more resources to address this emergency," said Mark Isaac, vice president of the Elizabeth Glaser Pedriatic AIDS Foundation. "In the coming weeks, we hope that (lawmakers) can further increase these funding levels to meet the challenge."
