Backlash as Foreigners Give Monks a High-Speed Lift in Pattaya

I always crack up at such bigoted scenes everywhere in the world, but Thailand just seems to have the best ones.

 

Right now over here in Isaan, it's the talk of the town, or rather, the talk of our village: The head monk has taken in two Black novices. Most villagers, who have never seen a Black person in real life, are in a commotion. "Should I give a Black person a wai? That’s unthinkable!" 🤣🤣

Can’t understand what is wrong with them.

Offering kind helping hands to Thais' spiritual leaders. 

And the monks looked pleased during their ride.

Then these foreign men blessed in return to their good deed.

 

Where is the victim in this story?

Just looks like a good example of the Positive Cultural Exchange itself though.

 

If this kind of thing felt any upsetting, I call it Narrow Mind.

We couldn't sit together in the bus but it was a pleasant time before we went to Bangkok.

Years ago I travelled from Bangkok to Heathrow sitting next to a monk (Eva Air I think). He was a member of the community at a Wat in the West Midlands. He was I would say a fairly "Hi So" young man, a very pleasant travelling companion. I am a Catholic so we had a very interesting conversation,  not in the slightest bit antagonistic. We parted friends at Heathrow.

Foreigners are so sensitive these days, more than half the comments on the fb page were positive, a few questioned whether or not the monks were behaving appropriately. 
None were criticizing the foreigners. There was no moaning.

Nowadays everything sparks debate, outrage etc. People should get a life already!  The only thing that is quite wrong  is that nobody is wearing a helmet.

Got to agree with Malcolm on this, foreigners are quick to attack the Thai at any opportunity.

Way i understand this story is the two foreigners did a good deed by giving the two monks a lift on their mc’s. The monks were appreciative of the gesture, photos were taken and blessings, from the monks, received.

The “ Backlash “ was some netizens fearing the two monks riding on the back of two Farang mc’s might somehow bring the religion into disrepute, imho, seeing problems when no problems exist.

Thai social media labels the act as "Disrespectful to Thai Buddhism."

 

Ignore the drunk monks, the skirt-chasing monks, the yaba monks, the monks wear the robes but little else.

Wonder if offering a ride to a monk actually qualifies as 'merit' if the person giving the ride won't also give cash to the monk? 

 

Like the indulgence thingy in catholic church before, good deeds did not count unless you also gave cash to the priests as that what they really are after.

I think since the last time I heard about Thai netizens with their panties in a twist because "bad foreigner pee outside," I've seen at least 10 (actually more) guys taking a leak on the side of the road. 

It's not whether there is a problem with the act, it's that a foreigner is doing it. 

Farang pees on the side of the road:  "IMMIGRATION POLICE!!!"
Thai pees on the side of the road:       Mai bpen rai!

Look at the corruption in the temples. How many monks drink smoke.  Take drugs. Drive.  And go to bars!. 

It's all documented. Papers! Media etc.

Biggest temple in Bangkok. 

Where there's money 💰 there's corruption.
