DTV application: Should I mention I have a wife, kids and house?

I plan to apply for a DTV in HCMC, based on remote work through a UK company that I own.

I feel that I meet the criteria, and have evidence.

Considering that I have a wife, house & Thai kids here, do you guys feel that mentioning this will help or hinder my application?

- it could help, showing stability and affordable accommodation

- it could hinder, as it could appear that I'm just trying to avoid a marriage or retirement visa

 

I have tried to make this a poll, and all votes are welcome... but I usually screw up trying to do these polls.

IMO can't see how it's related to application.

No reason to bring family into it.

There is no DTV qualification for visiting family.  It's completely unrelated to your application, and cannot help it.  If it cannot help, the only thing it can do is hurt it.

There is no place on the evisa application for this. It is not asked about it. Give them specifically what they request and nothing more.

I would say no need to mention. Seeing as there is no category of the DTV Visa based on having Thai family it would be an irrelevant addition

 

In  fact, it could be looked at in a negative light by the embassy 😮 and they could wonder why you don't have a non-O visa/extension based on marriage to a tie or raising Thai children. 😕

Any FIRST HAND experience of the portal they use would be much appreciated. I believe it's all online, with no visit to the consulate.

I have no idea what file types or limits there are, but don't want to 'try it just to find out'. I prefer to have it all ready in advance. I'm expecting JPEGs and PDFs.

I'm presuming that I first need to be out of Thailand to even apply. I plan to go to HCMC, Vietnam

Then I need to show proof of location (a previous member said the stamp in my passport is ideal.

I will have a letter from the UK company I own 50% of, explaining why I need to be here, with proof of monthly payments from that company to me. 

I will have approx 600,000 THB in my own personal SCB account. I will have an updated bank book and will try to get an online statement from my app, but I guess a letter from the bank would be useful, too.

 

Anything I'm missing, have overlooked or screwed up?

From memory they want pdf files (except for the photos) and limit them to a specific size.

 

The London Embassy insisted the selfie photo is 4 x 5.

 

Annoyingly, each section of the UK evisa application only allows 1 pdf so ensure you have a pdf combiner program and keep a constant eye on how big each combined file is. The site will tell you if the file is too big.

 

They will probably ask for further documents after the initial check (which I suspect is done at lower level). Don't worry about this. It is to be expected.

 

With the second submission, I included a covering letter in each of my combined pdf's to assist them.

I wouldn't mention family as there is no section to include the details. I have just received my DTV in the UK and from the limited info you gave it should be fine. Speaking to an agent here, don't try to renew at immigration after 6mths as they are now requesting all financial etc again so do the easiest Visa run  - good luck.

I have no intention of trying to renew, as the idea of going out every six months (or more frequently) is perfect for me.
