Medication outside hospital

Hi,

I am a regular user of 'ramipril' to control my blood pressure. I normally buy my pills from the hospital (Bangkok Hospital) pharmacy itself but found out that Ramipril 5mg now costs me 63 Bath per pill. 

I found an alternative pharmacy online that sells these pills at 24 Bath a piece which is way down to the 63 I pay now. The received package and the company seems legit and I wonder if other people have experience with buying medicines online.

Yes, I have often bought fom them. They are fine.

 

You could also just buy this at a pharmacy.  Like most medications, it  does not need a prescription in Thailand.

 

Private hodpitsl mark ups on meds are considerable so except in the infrequent case of a controlled substance,  best to buy meds at an outside pharmacy.  

 

I don't know which brand you got ftom Medtide but there are locally made Thai  generic equivalents  available.

I always ask the doctor to write down the medicines that they are prescribing and then I order it at the local (independent) pharmacy.

The pharmacist is much cheaper than the hospital, and she gives me a discount on the retail price.

The added bonus is that she also happens to be good looking and is fun to talk to.

You might want to compare price to Caspril which is locally made generic.

Yes, the large branch on North Pattaya Road have been very good to me over decades now! 
Some medicines are still expensive,, but that is in most cases and “absolute”.

I have taken Ramipril since I was 48, now nearly 80. Was on 5mg in UK but it was initiallynreduced here to 2,5 mg.

 

I buy Tritace from the local chemist .. cost is 1050 Baht for 100 tablets of 2.5 mg. And I now only take half a tablet a day.

You can buy ramipril at your local Boots pharmacy, without a prescription. I can not remember what the price was, sorry. As for myself, I like buying my medicines in person then online.

I was on Ramipril when I first came here from the UK, i was getting 6 months prescriptions at the time and it wasn't too much of a problem.

About 10 years ago the stopped that and about the same time following a check up i was advised to see a cardiologist. When i saw him I the medication was discussed and he advised to change to Anapril, a local generic. I have been on that ever since without a problem, copy of prescription from last week. I was 5mg Ramapril and that went to 20mg Anapril and you can see tablets 1 baht each. 

If wondering why they have a line though it is because I get a copy of the prescription to buy the Apixaban elsewhere.

If convenient, there are some very popular pharmacies on Ratchawithi Road (Victory Monument) opposite the big government hospital of the same name.There is one in particular, but I forget the name, that is really well-stocked, has very good prices and is not a rip off. You'll figure out which one by how crowded it is - usually 3-4 people deep - though it's not a big place. It's near the shops that sell hospital equipment. I think if you go past the 7-Eleven you will have gone too far. Used to be cash only. Maybe they take cards now. It's cheap because they don't give out VAT/GST receipts. If you need that for insurance (e.g. print out pharmacy receipt with your name), you'll pay more. Also, during the pandemic, a place called Bangkok Drug Store has an online pharmacy (with a real shop near Sala Daeng), used to deliver for an extra 20 baht or so. Prices reasonable. They don't have everything though.. not like the place above.

My advice is that boots are cheaper than the hospitals but still expensive compared to cheaper pharmacies.
However, I also prefer to buy in person.
Look for the cheaper pharmacies recommended.
The cheapest i know is Siam pharmacy at Ploenchit just outside the BTS station.
They have a lot of meds in stock, some that i cannot readily get elsewhere.
You can telephone them to see what they have and price. The number from google is 083 792 1982

That's better, but you need to shop around. 
I found my med in a pharmacy near a hospital. It costs 70% cheaper than the hospital pharmacy. Larger pharmacies near major government hospitals could be better.
