You lived in Thailand for 10 years and still can't pronounce farang. How can they trust you?

"Trust me" to do what ?

What do they need to trust me about ?

To let the machine pick the right lenses.

Its the people operating the machine that I have concerns about .

The staff come across as just inexperienced shop assistants who want to sell some glasses

They recommended  Playboy frames with the Playboy logo on it . Which shows how unaware they are  , an 11 year old walking round school with playboy glasses on !!!!!!!

Two points,

1. This equipment is really easy to use, took me around 5 minutes to learn to use it with no instructions.

So I can go into the shop and use these machines within five minutes with no instructions or trainning ?

I will go into the shop and do the test myself then

2. This equipment is about 10 years out of date, all done by computer now, looks into a device, watch a cartoon tractor cross the screen, and out comes a printout with your prescription on it. Just needs someone to press the start button.

Could you post a link to one of those machines ?

I asked in a different shop today and they said that those machines can just detect irregularities , but you would need the old style eye checker to get an in depth review and to decipher what type of lenses are required

The shop assistant encouraged me to purchase expensive bifocals (which I thought would be unnecessary) and she also suggesting I get a delicate ray-ban style frames .

I went into another shop and the competent assistant said bifocals were unnecessary and she also suggested I buy "indestructible" frames , imported from Norway and they are bendy .

So, well done to me far asking about , otherwise I would have got some delicate bifocals with a Playboy advert on them .

Would have been rather stupid to get the first glasses offered
