The Ukrainians want national sovereignty, freedom and the opportunity to join the EU. Not be under Russian subjugation. The same aspirations as all the other  Eastern European countries once suppressed under the Iron Curtain.

And Putin's scared the Russians will want the same freedoms.

The Ukraine is not a country and has never been one

The inference that the minerals deal makes the US and the Ukraine's fate intertwined is fairly clear.

The problem is there is an example where that theory isn't working; DRC. The Democratic Republic of the Congo is rich in Cobalt and other minerals. China dominates the mining licences in that country, but it hasn't brought about Pax Sinae. Arguably, as the mining licences have come up for renewal, the civil war has intensified.

Any Russian renewed invasion of Ukraine will be well signposted due to the forces needed. There won't be thousands of American miners in country. I expect any US managers to scarper. The idea that the taxpayer will be expected to foot the blll to protect commericial interests I expect to receive short shrift.

Its difficult to find a single example of an expropriated natural resource eliciting a military response by the licence holder.

Are you seriously equating that <deleted> country with any European country? If so, I'm boggled that anyone would do so.

Well, let's confine it to Ukraine, to retain a semblrance of relevance. Ukraine had developed ambitions to be an energy provider herself. This put her in direct competition with Russia. When the Russian friendly Ukrainian government was overthrown, with the aid of American intelligence but quite clearly also with broad popular support for switching allegiance from Russia to the West among a portion of Ukrainians, this was the key moment that Ukraine was set on a clear collision course with Russia.

The Ukrainians, like any cheating gf, knew that when she hops into bed with the West this would have unpleasant consequences due to her boyfriend Russia.

As a result the Ukrainians decided to seek the protection of the new boyfriend, NATO. However, as we can now see, cheating never pays.

As expected........:coffee1:

Now try, Finland, Sweden and the other ex Commy countries................🤔

Khrushchev saw the transfer of Crimea to Ukraine as a way of fortifying and perpetuating Soviet control over Ukraine.  Some 860,000 ethnic Russians would be joining the already large Russian minority in Ukraine.

No gift there.

The Ukrainians voted for Zelensky with 73 percent of the vote, the largest tally in the country's history,

with a pro-Western and pro-European foreign policy. Even now his popularity is high, higher after Trump and Vance's despicable behaviour last Friday.

There is a documentary on Youtube about Pokrovsk and the surrounding areas, where Zelensky has left the population to bleed and die. You may want to listen to what those Ukrainians had to say about their comedian president. That was before the Kursk excursion and the recent oval office fail by Zelensky.

And how popular do you think Zelensky is now among the troops fighting in the trenches, who have now been deprived of US military and intelligence support? It is reported by the Guardian that Ukraine has lost 15% accuracy in its drone campaigns and lost the forewarning of US intelligence when Russian drones are about to hit.

Any smart Ukrainian will surely want to get rid of this ineffectual liability of a president. No wonder Zelensky himself offered to step down.

As for Crimea it was given by Russia to Ukraine to cement the reunification of Ukraine and Russia, as per the treaty of Pereyaslav, which had a 300 year anniversary when Krushchev was in power. Krushchev of course loved Ukraine, it was his favourite republic and he thought he was doing it a favour by facilitating economic integration between Ukraine and Crimea. Littile could he know that he would cause untold killing and death with his transfer of Crimea to Ukraine down the line.

I didn't see any facts only delusional perception.

The real fact is that neither the US or Russia were happy with what Reagan and Gorbachev did, with the old guard looking to go back to the old ways.

Trumps interest however probably has more to do with the Leo Wanta story.

The continent was always there. The people that lived there are history. Seems to me that things have always been much the same. The people with the biggest guns take the spoils. The peace-loving indigenousers are no more; all over.

Europe makes the best cars in the world. Has the prettiest ladies and best music. What do they want to fight for?

They don't want to fight, I can't recall the last time Europe started a war.

They are stuck with the proxy war the US started in Europe

Indeed!

I think it is appropriate to point out that some of these political elite warmongers are unelected. And those that are, are on shaky ground in their own countries.

Also, Russia is in Europe. Moscow is the biggest city in Europe.
