Aus Partner Visa, Thai Lady Previously Had Tb

Featured Replies

Applying for a Australian partner visa for fiance who has previously had TB that has successfully been treated.

Information on immigration website indicates this should not be a barrier to gaining visa, she will have to report to Aus health authorities regularly after entering Aus.

Anyone else applied for Aus visa and Thai partner has previously had TB, during visa application process what will this mean. I realise she has to go through medical check which should show she has had TB but it has been treated. Will immigration treat the application different.

Any help appreciated.

As long as she tests clear and everything else is in order application wise then it shouldnt be a problem.

There is a difference between being infected from tuberculosis and from having the tuberculosis disease. It's the TB disease that is the big worry.

Have a read of the Australian Health Requirements and if you have any questions you might like to contact your local Immigration office. There is a link at the bottom of the Health Requirement information.

A few years ago the Australian Embassy in Bangkok would send all medical reports back to Australia for them to be scrutinized by Aussie doctors before any decision was made on visa applications.

In those days applications took about three months for approval.

These days applications can be approved in as little as 24 hours, so either the Embassy now has a resident doctor or they have somehow streamlined the medical checking procedure.

If you are in Thailand right now, perhaps a inquiry with the Embassy may give you some answers.
