2023

At times, Thailand's regression into third world mentality is deeply worrying. Anyone, esp foreigners, can find themselves in trouble real quick. Best not to argue with the natives, even when in the right, though of course if you're getting shafted, what do you do...

Hope these guys find justice and can move on.

Regression?

Try watching the CCTV footage. I think it's fairly apparent who were the most serious and violent aggressors here.

Incidentally, according to an article in the Middlesbrough Evening Gazette, the other couple involved were a British man with a Thai wife, not a Thai couple.

do you have a link that has the video on this attack

Des and Mary ... you're doing this all wrong.

Hire a lawyer and ask him to contact Khun Noom on Channel 33.
https://www.youtube.com/@honekrasaeofficial

Have the lawyer write to the accusers to say that he will be contacting the programme. If this doesn't scare them off, then have the lawyer write to Noom.

Noom will invite the three of you to the programme (12:35 p.m.) together with the attackers. The whole country will hear about the attack.

I don't believe the attackers will dare to pursue the court case when they know what is going to happen.

They may say: "I have connections!" No "connections" will dare to get involved in the case because they know about Hone Krasae.

This is the solution to your problem. How do I know? I've watched the programme over many years.

it is a smart strategy 'power of the press'. Ive never heard of this guy before. But some of his videos have millions of views.

Brit probably got a bit lippy with the Thais.

And got a fat lip.
It amazes me how some farangs, and especially us Brits, think they can talk down and yell at the locals without any consequences.

You have no idea of the facts and are just taking a wild stab at them despite CCTV evidence of aggression and the advanced years of the couple. If you are going to speculate, make it about how the couple managed to buy land rather than how their behaviour brought all this upon themselves.

Well, we don't know what happened exactly. But if there was a loss of face, it could have been what triggered the violent "Muay Thai" reaction from the couple. Many foreigners will never fully understand that Thai social system operates under a "face saving" framework. You just cannot go against that in Thailand.

Did you ever catch up with the actual facts - that the young guy is British, not Thai?

I totally agree, because once you have investments, it is not all that easy to pack up and go, considering a loss in exchange rates selling, plus starting all over again, especially at retirement age and up.

One Thai case  in hundreds of  thousands goes  wrong ? .. ....of course in the West no one ever had a bad tenant  .haha

OK, thank you for telling me. This of course changes everything.

"superficial injuries and mental anguish" to their attackers.

Seriously? I think eventually they got a fine. But they sold their home to cover legal expenses? What? How did they own the house? It's a stupid lawsuit. Why worry. Get in a plane and leave.

Things don't add up.

However if the counter lawsuit is true... then that's about as mucked up ad I've heard in the LOS

This is a link to the Sun article about this. It contains more details and has CCTV video of the altercation.

Brit couple's legal nightmare

Yikes. Really nasty neighbors. However both The husband and wife got beaten because they just wouldn't walk away. Never be "right" sitting in a hospital bed. Not worth it.

Nonsense, done it multiple times and am still here.

Many times in the last 20 years I have stopped Thai's from queue jumping although not being rude about it, and never once have any of them complained.

They had a 30 yr lease and did not buy the land as you say

no rocket science that this will end badly.

thailand is okay for some weeks holiday but living there ? geez!  especially as eldery you dont want 30+ degrees every day.

What nonsense, I moved here when I was 50, now I'm 77, can you do the maths?
Never regretted it, from that country in the EU, from which I come from I wouldn't even want to be found dead.
But everyone has different experiences, that's true.

Why do people still invest money in this country ? Own a property or properties back in your own "farangland" where there is transparency and rule of law . Then just rent here in Thailand this way if you have bad neighbors or the country/government begins to go to 💩 you can just pack up and move 👍🏼

In the Netherlands where small investors own and rent out a house try to sell it again as soon as possible.
The big culprit there is tax.
Then I'd rather own a condo in Thailand anyway.

I’ve never lived in Thailand but I have been vacationing here for the past 27 years or so on a yearly basis.  The number of altercations I’ve had I can count on one hand and all of them have been with other foreigners.

A British newspaper claims "The pair have spent every penny they own trying to clear their names".

Just how much is a lawyer for a simple criminal case costing them. What on earth are they doing?

I'd think it would have cost so far no more than 20,000 baht, and the trial itself would be no more than 30,000. Am I disconnected from reality?

Yes.
