Chinese Tourists Caught Dining and Dashing across Chon Buri

Restaurant owners in Chon Buri are increasingly frustrated as incidents involving Chinese tourists leaving without paying have escalated. The latest involves four Chinese men who amassed a 1,205 baht bill at a local eatery, departing without settling the amount.

 

Seree Chanchaiyaphum, owner of the affected restaurant, recounted that on March 2, the group arrived at 7.30 pm, enjoyed a full meal with alcoholic drinks, and left without paying. Upon sharing the encounter on a local Facebook group, others revealed similar experiences, identifying the same group as culprits.

 

Lacking CCTV coverage, some businesses chose not to report the incidents, while others feared complications from involving police. Fortunately, security footage at Seree's restaurant captured four men, all over 40. Two were seen dining at a marble table, while others engaged in charging phones and ordering food.

 

 

The reported behaviour was a repeat performance. On March 8, Yutthanun Phanprom, a hotpot buffet owner, noted a group matching the description behaved identically, crumpling a bill totalling 1,082 baht before slipping out unnoticed.

 

The repeated nature of these incidents has prompted police scrutiny into the group’s possible residence in a condominium complex known to house numerous Chinese nationals. Authorities are determined to track down and prosecute those responsible, aiming to curtail the rising trend of foreign tourists exploiting local eateries.

 

As concerns grow, restaurant owners hope for swift action and a resolution that ensures the security and sustainability of their businesses, reported The Thaiger.

Anyways, it is very pathetic behavior... eating and then moving out without paying...

I wonder if Thai law allows for businesses to start to require selected group to “pre-pay” before being serve?  While I don’t necessarily like this solution I think businesses have a legit grievance and I think they should be able to take reasonable proactive preventative measures.

agree!! or perhaps they have illegals working there or something else that would put them into problems with the police. 

 

Either way, i hope the police catch these guys and send them home. They will face a lot worse when they arrive back to China.

Easy solution, If Chinese you deposit a debit card or passport  as you order which will be returned after dining and the bill is settled.
