In a shocking case of human trafficking, an 18-year-old woman, identified as "Gift", was arrested for allegedly acting as a broker in the sexual exploitation of a 14-year-old girl. The arrest was made following an investigation led by the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Division (ATPD) of the Royal Thai Police.

The operation was spearheaded by Pol. Maj. Gen. Songklod Kriakkitya, commander of the ATPD, alongside a team of officers including Pol. Col. Alongkot Kochakaew, superintendent of Division 5, ATPD, and Pol. Lt. Col. Krieng Snohsamnieng, deputy superintendent. The arrest took place at Gift's residence in Moo 6, Soi 8, Tha Lo Subdistrict, Tha Muang District, Kanchanaburi Province.

The investigation began after authorities discovered a X account under the handle "@gilgnaka," allegedly operated by Gift, which advertised the sexual services of minors and young women in Kanchanaburi and nearby areas. The posts offered services for 1,000 to 1,500 baht per session. Following the discovery, police gathered evidence and obtained an arrest warrant from the Criminal Court on 21st February 2025.

Undercover officers then posed as clients to arrange a meeting with the 14-year-old victim, identified as "Bee". Bee revealed that she had been contacted by Gift, who offered her work in the sex trade. Gift allegedly took a cut from each transaction as a broker's fee. This testimony led to the arrest of Gift at the scene, on 13 March.

During interrogation, Gift confessed to her involvement in the sex trade, stating that she had been working in the industry since the age of 15. As she grew older, she found it increasingly difficult to attract clients, who reportedly preferred younger girls. This prompted her to transition into a brokering role, facilitating the exploitation of minors.

Gift has been charged with human trafficking, procuring individuals for sexual exploitation, and other related offenses. She has been handed over to Division 5 of the ATPD for further legal proceedings.

This case highlights the ongoing issue of human trafficking and the exploitation of minors in Thailand, prompting calls for stricter enforcement and preventive measures to protect vulnerable individuals.

Sadly, this trafficking of young girls is not unusual.

A very good friend of mine found out that her daughter (14 years old) was being offered for sale as a virgin, by the girl's own grandmother.

My friend took the daughter away from the grandmother and moved to another province.

Very widespread in Thailand.

Wow.  What chance did the girl have with family like that.

Minor correction, but she's not a 'woman' if she's 18. She is still a girl herself. I'm aware of the international definition of 18 as adult, but in Thailand the age of majority is 20. So she'd be a Thai 'woman' at 20. As I say, it's a minor correction - and doesn't change the sleeziness of trafficking a younger girl. Shameful, but not very surprising to be honest.

Yeah. An extended Thai family member (a guy) was in love with a pretty, petite Thai girl when he was 20 and she was 16. The girl's mother, aware of his feelings, really pushed his mother and father to confirm a marriage (for the purpose of trying to cash in on a huge sin sot demand). She said if sin sot and marriage wasn't agreed very, very soon, she'd send her daughter to Pattaya to make money for her. Pure extortion. Didn't work. She got nothing. The guy was heartbroken. Don't know whether the girl ever went to Pattaya - but wouldn't be surprised.
